All these negative threads about immigration are really making me wonder why anyone immigrating here would feel welcome. So how about a thread stating the things you like about immigration, no negatives or stupid jokes, just the positive aspects of immigration.
What I love about living immigration in Canada:
The new foods
The cool accents
Real life exposure to different cultures
That my kids will grow up knowing more about the world and are less likely to be close minded
That it saves lives when the person immigrating is a refugee
That it proves humans aren't racist by design
That my offsprings' genes will be stronger by mixing with other gene pools
That it makes up for some of my ancestors past crimes

I think it's great to have many different outlooks, beliefs etc. It sort of encourages you to think in ways you never have before, open your mind, and learn to be more accepting. I think learning to be more accepting, makes for a more enjoyable life in general.

The the more multicultural we get, the more everyone realizes people are equal, and should be judged as individuals, and not groups. Eventually we can say goodbye to affirmative action, special parades/months/anniversaries/holidays/dates to celebrate the differences. There will come a time when people only celebrate one - the human race, because people will see we're all the same

Without immigrants, we wouldn't have the majority of RFD's memberbase. We're all cheap immigrants. I openly admit I am one too.

Hmmm...I dont know how it proves this. IMO it often proves that everyone is racist...as Ive met quite a few immigrants whove brought their own surprisingly racist beliefs here with them.
So for me, its mostly just the foods, maybe some exotic looking women (most of whom seem to prefer to "stay with their own kind" anyways, but its nice to look)._______________

Food, women, fashions, sports, new outlooks on life, new interests, cool accents, learning more about cool places to go visit I'd probably never know about, the list goes on.
And agreed on the 'most humans aren't racist' thing. Sure, you get some insular xenophobes on all sides, but being able to connect with new people if you try is awesome._______________

I think that when you see so many ethnicities around town, it makes raising an adopted a child from another country easier.

We have the ability to take some of the best and brightest people from around the world and bring them into our country which benefits everybody. That is obviously amazing...if we had a system that actually worked to accomplish the goal of bringing the best people in.

I can just picture the all the voices screaming "They took our jobs! " if Canada only let in the 'best' people. Everybody leaving school with marks less than 95% and years of experience would turn into Mark77._______________

The food.
That's about it.
And only after it's gone through the North American sugar/salt/fat amplifying filter.
I'm not sure immigration is something to celebrate. It's more of a thing to tolerate during integration.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

I agree, if there were no immigration there would be no rare beef soup. That stuff is better than cold medicine, jmo...
Swharma are pretty good too.
In fact Canada needs more foreign cuisine. Jmo...
Different markets as well. First or Second generation stores, and marketplaces that bring in entirely unique products. I don't usually shop in "malls", and if it weren't for the independent shops with the amazing selections, I probably wouldn't like shopping at all.Last edited by MrKap; Apr 20th, 2012 at 10:39 PM.

1. You can eat anything as long as there's demand for it. There's no need for people to immigrate here for you to enjoy their food.
2. If you're a girl then you're probably just interested in European accents... I've never heard a girl say that they love Asian accents despite how much that'd please me.
3. How immigrants behave here is nothing like their culture back home... don't trivialize ethnic culture. "Ohhhhh Hello Kitty!!, now I know everything about Asian culture".
4. People just hang out in cliques anyway.
5. Save more lives by paying more for your iPad.
6. Humans ARE racist and xenophobic by design. The fact that we need laws to prevent discrimination show that people are racist unless constrained by the government.
7. That's just BS biology.
8. LOL._______________
The unexamined life is not worth living...
