"Eye tiredness" is a clear sign your eyes need a little rest - skip the drops, wash your face with cold water, and give 'em a break for a bit (eg: some shut eye)...

I never used and never will use those lame eye drops because I dont want to add some crap chemicals to my eyes. For example, I remeber hearing that the "anti-redeye" ones did something to clog up the veins in your eyes so they no longer looked red.
Anyways, here's something to try:
If you are at home, try taking a towel and dipping in in warm water and then putting it over your eyes and let it sit there for a while.
Another way is to rub your palms together for a bit, then with your hands slightly cupped, place them over your eyes and just stay like that for a minute or two.
I used to get eye strain a lot before, and both of these methods worked well for me. Try it and tell me what you think._______________

yeah forget using that stuff...you really should let your eyes rest once in a while if you are working all day at the computer. just stop staring at the monitor for 5 mins every couple of hours or so, take a break and let ur eyes relax

a bit off topic but in the past i'd put metal spoons in the freezer and put them over my eyes to promote redblood cells to circulate...helped with the drooopy looking morning eyes i'd get from a late nite out drinking..
also tinfoil hats are good in winter

Aug 7th, 2005 05:07 PM #9I am no biology genius, but I think what you are doing with the spoons over the eyes doesn't promote circulation to your eyes, its lessens it. An example of this is your hands going cold during winter when circulation is cut off to your extremities by your body in order to conserve heat.

I'd stay away from any eyedrops, like Visine, which contain preservatives.
If he's at work, he obviously can't sleep the redness away or put metal spoons on his eyes. Depending on why they're red, you can do the following:
Dry eyes - drops work great (remember, none with preservatives)
Lack of sleep - Rest up.
Strain (staring at the comp screen too long) - you can try drops, but i suggest taking a 5 min break, take a walk outside, basically stop focusing on something.

Visine gives me temporary relief, but makes my eyes feel worse after an hour or so. I prefer to just take a break, wash my face, close my eyes etc.

Aug 7th, 2005 08:03 PM #13The coldness of the spoon helps by decreasing circulation, like hyperion said. The blood vessels in the area constrict, so less redness is observed. You get the same effect using icecubes.
