God Bless America, the first half was funny, the second half of the movie just takes itself to serious.

That was my feeling about it. After a while it just seemed like Bobcat talking at me about stuff he hates, which works fine as a standup act but makes for a pretty mundane film, especially when it started off in such a promising way.

I didn't read the books and I thought it was pretty good. Will I read the books? No, as it simply ruins the movie experience and vice versa.
See this is the problem with book to movie adaptations: A movie is only what 2 hrs long? Maybe 2.5 hrs? How the heck do ppl expect all the details of the book to get put into a movie. Of course they have to cut stuff out or it would be a 5+ hr movie. Same can be said for all the Harry Potter movies, they left out a crap load of stuff but they had too or again it would have been a good 7+ hr movie and that's for each book.....
Ppl will say that "this shouldn't have been cut, but this should have", but where do you draw the line?
If you have read the book, you either:
a) don't bother going to see the movie as you're going to be comparing it to the book the entire time you are watching it, and not enjoy the movie.
b) delete the book from your brain for the next 2 to 3 hrs and just enjoy the movie and analyze it afterwards
Most ppl do a) and that's why these ppl don't enjoy it.

I thought Hunger Games was a very good translation. You can't really get a sense of it until you read all three books but nothing they took out is very significant to the overall story.

I didn't read the books either but The Hunger Games was hyped up to be an amazing movie etc in the media...
Watching the movie, I thought it was pretty mediocre.
It doesn't bring anything new to the table, storyline was average IMO...nothing really special about it....

I might be alone here, but I actually enjoyed the Hunger Games movie far more than I did the book. The book needed more editing, it focused on pointless things for long stretches and the internal dialogue made Katniss seem like a complete twat. It was also so incredibly convenient, if you stopped to think about what was happening for 20 seconds you realise that Katniss doesn't actually have to ever make a difficult decision, the movie lessens that somewhat.
Ultimately it was the problem of turning a mediocre book into a movie and I think they did a good job visualizing what the book was with some of the crud ripped out. It was kind of bland though because the book was bland, it's written for teenagers and has the complexity of something written for teenagers, the film not surprisingly turned out the same way. I'm glad they had the balls to slow the pace down enough to make it have some kind of impact, instead of making it yet another rushed through fustercluck for the ADHD audience.

The Hunger Games is just a plain rip-off of the Japanese Movie "Battle Royal" which was released waaaaay back in 2000.
I cannot believe the story writer of the Hunger Games was not sued for ripping of the main concept.
Even the Steve Austin movie about a bunch of hardcore criminals sent to an Island to fight till death until one survives and is given their freedom....ripped off the concept from Battle Royal. I cant remember the name of the movie...its on the tip of my tongue...but cannot recall it. Called..."The..." someting. Just IMDB it ...and it was fun to watch.

Will people please stop making the comparison between Battle Royale and Hunger Games? The movies/books are BARELY similar and it exposes you as an otaku simpleton when you do that.

What even is an 'otaku simpleton'? I don't watch anime or play Japanese games, but Japanese film I highly regard as some of the best in the world (in the Asian market, Japan is second only to South Korea when it comes to film). The Hunger Games is just a plain bad movie, and you're delusional if you don't see the striking similarities between it and Battle Royale. Virtually everything is identical save for the whole dystopian future thing.
Anyways...
I started watching a lot of Korean and Japanese horror films lately, and one director in particular I am quite fond of. Koji Shiraishi made an earlier film named Noroi: The Curse, which I watched many years ago and really liked it. I'm never the kind of person who prefers 'found footage' type films, but this was done so well and it was genuinely spooky at times. I watched two more of his films, Occult (2009), and Shirome (2010). Occult was marvelous, but Shirome was possibly the worst horror film I've seen. At times I was confused as to whether it was a comedy or not; it wasn't scary in the least, and just the whole basis of the plot was forgettable. Don't watch it, it's terrible. Occult and Noroi are top-notch, though.

Have you read beyond the first book or are you just regurgitating nonsense? The BASIC, very BASIC premise of 'kids killing each other' is the same (in the same way that The Raid is the same as Rumble In The Bronx because both movies are about kicking dudes) but the overall story could not possibly be more different.

I equate The Hunger Games to Twilight in terms of literary merit; of course I haven't read it. I am judging solely on my experience with THG movie.
