probably around low to mid 80s, or 70s if you've got a good portfolio.

It depends on the school you attend as well (HS). UW is one of the few schools that does "fudging"
i.e. they look at your 85% from school A. But if there have been many successful people at UW from school A, your 85 can turn into a 90. Conversely, if the people in years ahead of you are not doing so well, your 85 won't hold much weight either.
Officially, they said it isn't done, but I can tell it is.
I had high 80s, low 90s but came from a successful HS. (Graduated ComE from UW)

At the moment, computer engineering & computer science are both pretty desperate for decent students. No one's interested in computer stuff any more (read: Parents don't think their kids will get rich because of the dot com crash)
So having an 86% average will be tons for computer engineering.

To get into UW Comp Eng? I'm not going to argue this.. but if this is so, the requirements have dropped a lot since I was there 8 years ago.

Comp Engineering is Co-Op Only @ 'Loo(or so I have read) so grades are like, 90s and above(or so listed in the book). My friend had a mid 80s average, got turned down from waterloo, and is attending UT's comp engineering program(uh ohh)

I'm guessing this wasn't last year that he was applying? From what I heard, they were desperate to get people in computer engineering last year.

Got early acceptance @ Ryerson with a 85% average.
Also got into Mac and UofT with the same average, but these were second round offers. By the way, this was two years back.

86 wil get u in. Extra curriculars or not. Unless of course standards increase this year which I highly doubt.

I got rejected initially with a 92% average, although I got accepted only a couple weeks later, this was the year of the double cohort, but I"ve gone and switched into Electrical now.
But yeah from what I've heard, engineering across the board doesn't have as high averages required as it once did. But yes, Waterloo does do mark adjustment based on your high school.

i got in with an 81.4% but i came from St. Robert's CHS and with a reference letter from my physics teacher who is well known at Waterloo. so that might have carried some weight. i turned it down for Electrical/Biomedical Engineering at McMaster though.
i also got in to all my first choice programs (mostly engineering) at UT, McMaster, Queen's, Guelph, and Western.
