What shots do I need when going to Jamaica?
I will be going to the doctor sometime next week and just want to know, what shots am I looking at getting if any? I believe I am immune to hep b, cant really remember but I was told once. I will be going in July, so I'm guessing i'd need to start taking some shots now or soon? Thanks

Google can provide you answers for this specific question. But regardless of what you read about on the internet, your doctor will only give you what he thinks/knows that you will need.
When I went over to Asian I did lots of research and shots and what shots i've taken. I stepped into this office and you loaded me up with a couple shots, and a prescription in hand.
Frankly, regardless what you read about on such a reliable source as the internet and forums, I trust the fate of my vaccinations to a professional doctor. (I like my doctor tho)

Heroine?
If you don't need Hep B, Hep A is fine 5 weeks before as it's one shot. I got a Hep A / Typhoid combo shot for going to Indonesia in November. Also you should get your Tetanus shot if you haven't in like 10 years.

Like the stuff that puts a person at risk of hepatitis B? Jokes in on-line discussion fora have a tendency to fall flat. They're always tempting but I try to avoid them for this reason...

My brother recently went to Jamaica. He'd already had Hepatitis shots. He enquired at the doctor's office as to whether he needed anything to prevent malaria. The doctor said that he couldn't tell him to take it OR not to take it. It is an individual decision but would be prescribed if he wanted it. It is something that he'd have to take in advance of going and there are side effects to the medication as well. The doctor said if he was the one going, he'd just avoid being outside at dusk hours and wear long pants/shirts at night and bug spray.
In the end, my brother didn't take the malaria medication and he was fine and had a great trip.
