i vote on some poutine... nothing says canada like poutine. [sarcastic]
i actually like the rfd girl, i think it adds life to the generic vbulletin forum. also reason why i found out about rfd after it stood out in the 24hrs newspaper (or was it a metro?)
i dont see why not to keep it. its not like its rfd's symbol or anything. its not in the rfd logo. shes hovering above a search ad for pricecanada (rfd affiliate). sorry but i dont see her anywhere on the MAIN page either.
the maple leaf is already the symbol and "canada's largest Bargain Hunitng comminity" is rfds catch phrase.
it seems to me like a lot of people are offended because it 'looks' asian. its NOT a big deal. just let it go...

What should RFD replace the "RFD girl" with?
I mean no offense here and I totally respect the Asian culture, but isnt redflagdeals supposed to be a Canadian website? Wouldnt an image that represents the Canadian culture be more appropriate?
Once again I have nothing against Asians and I also believe they form a huge and positive part of our Canadian culture but they are not representative of the whole Canadian culture.
Wouldnt a more generic symbol be more appropriate like say maple leafs, squirrels, Canadian flag, multi-culturism, etc.?
Maybe loonies and toonies? These symbolize Canada and reflect deals.
Wikipedia has a list of the National symbols of Canada
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_symbols_of_Canada
Do you have any suggestions or ideas? post it here and hopefully Ryan and Derek will embrace one of the ideas

May 9th, 2006 03:53 AM #4oh, i dont want to seem like i was directing that at you. i was just saying that because theres some other posts with a lot of tension in it about the 'rfd girl'. it doesnt seem like a big deal to me.

rfd girl can co-exsist with an Official mascot that the mods could do some sort of promotion thing for. who can design a new Official mascot.
i read my post again and it looks really negative sounding
my bad, not my initial intention.

Why not something to do with a Looney since it's on our $1 coin, and this site is about saving money.

For those who are not in the know, the RFD girl is less of an Asian culture thingsy and more of the Anime sub-culture product. From Matrix (the movie trilogy) to Nintendo or Playstation (console games), the animation industry in North America has been so HEAVILY influenced by their Asian (Japanese) counterparts that almost every young animator grows up watching Dragon Ball Z.
And please, we do NOT need those beavers or ducks to reinforce the outdated, biased imagery that Canadians are slow and stupid. Check out the latest Metropolitan Flavour campaign (re: Toronto) for some new ideas instead.

not that there is any thing wrong with that
I personally adore anime (I've watched loads of anime and they made me laugh and cry) but I don't think it's related to Canada in anyway.
I might be wrong though
If beavers or ducks are outdated what do you suggest?
Where did you get the impression that "Canadians are slow and stupid"?
Where can I get more info on the "Metropolitan Flavour campaign"?Last edited by kinggori; May 9th, 2006 at 08:20 AM.
