What's the best digital camera out there for under $300?

I'm looking into buying a digital camera for this boxing day sale. The one I currently owe is a used 3.2 digital camera I bought off craigslist. It's a piece of trash.

I want the camera to record HD videos and take crisp images. Anyone with insights, please advice.

You can try the Canon PowerShot SD940 - excellent camera, with HD video as you mentioned. Look up some reviews. Price should be around $300. It was actually on sale for $230 at shopmyaxs.com previously. Best of luck!

Canon PowerShot SD series are the best for your price range. You should get the ones which have HD video.

the SD 1200 dont have 720p video , just 640*480 @30fps

Probably Panasonic ZS3.
Or the Canon SD980, which is like 50$ more.

I picked up the Canon sd940 for $269 a couple weeks ago at Bestbuy with a Staples PM. I think it's $289 this week. Great little camera, but hoping the price will go down boxing day!
