Fake as in non-original maker of the lens pen sure. Fake as in it'll mess up my lens, not likely.

China knockoffs/products are actually really good. Sure some places cut corners to maximize profits, but often the only corner they cut is in labor wages.
I was able to find a lens pen from Princess Auto that was from the former Radio Shack stores for $5....

I generally use my breath and a microfibre cleaning cloth. I carry a Lens Pen when I need to. But the best stuff I have used is R.O.R. (Residual Oil Remover) that I bought from B&H.
I purchased ROR from Lens and Shutter in BC. According to the web, the stuff is really good for any oil type cleaning. However, I have found that following up with a good microfiber cloth cleans up anything that is left over.

I actually do that.

my photography buddies lost their minds when they saw me.
I don't really care though. My equipment has been through a lot worse than a bit of spit and dirty cloth.

99.9% Methanol straight from the pharmacy + microfibre.

Just kidding. My 500ml bottle of that is reserved for the sensor. I actually only use microfibre.
