NiftyScent: What kind of "white slip-ons" do you wear? Vans? Been thinking of picking up a pair myself.

I was gonna get Vans first but then I saw Duffs.

Got them for $35 +tax in at Foot Locker with the Friends and Family sale (30% off). It goes for $50 without the discount.
I took them over Vans because I loved the black contrast lining and it was dirt cheap as well.
Only some FL carry them. I've only seen them at the Younge/Eglington, Eaton Centre, Younge/Dundas and Queen street.
Edit: Ack, you live in Vancouver.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting van slipons but then found some hurley ones instead. They were $30 at sport chek and I like them a lot more than the vans too.

It seems like every company and their mother are coming out with selvage denim now. GAP has some coming out (or is it already out? I haven't seen it yet) this fall I think. I'm not exactly seeing what's supposed to be so great about it to justify it's almost 2x the price tag of non-selvage denim.
First off, is it the actual denim that is different, or just the edge of it that gets stitched up along the legs? If it's just the edge, well I've never had a problem with the edges of jeans coming frayed, ripped or torn so I fail to see why selvage would be worth the additional cost.
I'm not a part of the Walmart Jeans = Old Navy jeans = GAP jeans = Club Monaco Jeans = PDC/7s/Nudies/etc jeans crowd, but I do think that there is a point on the quality scale where unless you're making your jeans out of a cotton-titanium-kryptonite blend you cannot get any better. Fit and style are highly debatable, and depend on personal tyle and body type. I find jeans with excessive fading (caused by wear, or artificial) to be hideous. I don't like rips or tears. I don't like loose fitting, baggy, or tight fitting jeans. It just bothers me that some companies add a certain feature to enhance the quality of their jeans (selvage, better rivets, better stiching, etc) that cost a buck or two more to make, and yet they feel justified in doubling the price. It's quite obvious that this is done to make a brand more prestigious, and not available to "the poor, huddled masses" - but I don't like it when it's used as a "quality" selling point like "these jeans will last much longer because they are selvage denim".
And it's not just jeans that do this - the act of adding features that one would expect to be a part of a quality piece of clothing. It seems like every company is just out there to cut corners on cheap things that are expected, only to eventually end up putting these items on a "premium line" and doubling the price (and fattening the profit margins as well). I know every company does this. We see it in cars, we see it in appliances, food, electronics, etc. Consumerism has reached a point where the companies now have us paying more than we should for a minimum level of quality that we demand.
Wow, sorry to go off on a ranty, drunken, anti-establisment, egalitarian tangent.
I just wanted to know more about selvage...

I'm in engineering and have a few big midterms coming up in 2 days
so what do I do? everything BUT study of course! i'm sure all of you know what i'm talking about, when you have a big thing coming up, your to-do list just gets long as hell haha, and they're all things that can wait
anyhow, I was bored, and decided to try out smthing i saw on tv once, or at least similar to it
so what do you guys/gurls think? Is it too much? Is it "the now"? too old fashioned? makes me look too old? (i'm 19)
Basically it's a white top, my old suit jacket, and a random pair of jeans
note: yes my room is messy, and i'm damn proud of it
