When do the same day exemptions for goods from the USA start?

I'm almost sure that the same day exemption of taxes and duty is increasing to $200 with the new CUSMA agreement. Does anyone have any info on this?

Or never ... No guarantee that this will pass a Democrat Congress in the US.

This. It needs to pass multiple readings on all three governments... so a year+ sounds right.

Used to work for Canada Customs
The others are right.
NOTHING is guaranteed when it comes to increases for any of the Customs / Importation Clauses in the CUSM Aagreement
The whole thing has to be ratified (passed into Law) by all 3 Countries before it goes into effect
That could take quite awhile ... or never
As there are already issues with it in the US Congress

BTW... the portion you are most interested in
Increasing Same Day Duty Free Exemptions from $ 0 to $ 200 for Cdns
OFFICIALLY doesn’t exist

Right now the only Importation Clause for the Average Joe & Jane
Is the increase that affects Online Shopping
And then it only goes up from $ 20 Cdn Duty Free to $ 150 Cdn Duty Free ... IF one utilizes an International Courier (ie FedEx, UPS etc)
Essentially only making these American Couriers much richer... and Cdns at the mercy of their RIDUCULOUS Brokerage Rates

Personally... I don’t think the whole CUSM Agreement is going to get ratified in 2019 by all 3 countries
It will likely just time out before the run up to the 2020 US Presidential Election
And the US Congress will force the current administration to uphold the current NAFTA Agreement between all 3 countries that has worked solidly for the last 25 Years

If we do see Duty Free Exemptions increase in Canada
It will be our own doing
And without this “Courier Clause”
I say it might be part of an upcoming Federal Election Campaign Promise

Until then...
Current CBSA Rules are in effect
