After October / November. All signs point to a 40D being released this September, being available early- to mid- October typically. 30D prices should drop slightly but not much more than they already are. Case in point - XT's aren't ridiculously cheap even though there's the XTi out.

When do you think the Canon 30D will be at its lowest price?

How much are you looking at spending for a 30D?
The 40D is really out and selling for about $1300 US body only.
It is a big improvement over the 30D for sure.
For a beginner, stay with XT or XTi._______________

Upgrading to the 30D from the XTi isn't really worth the cost.

I agree with that to a point. If you are shooting sports or wildlife or anything fast moving the 30D will show a significant improvement over the Xti. If you shoot mainly still subjects ie people, buildings etc. I agree totally with the statement above. The sensors are basically the same. I am waiting on the 40D for sure. The 30D is more than enough to learn on however.
The XTs are going for pretty cheap. Seen it as much as $529 for a refurb with lens with 1yr warranty. New I've seen it for $599.
Look out for the package deals they may have for hte 30D. Typically the accessories drop more than the actualy bodies. If you want the grip and extra batteries etc they should be showing cheaper in a package. I suspect the lowest you will see the body retail with warranty is 1099. I can't see it going any cheaper than that. Boxing day usually doesn't sell Canon SLRs for cheap but def lookout for Christmas time. Prob some good deals flying around.

Bought it in January 07.
30D is $999 at henrys now. at the time when I bought the XTi, the 30D was $1299.
Im still waiting., the rebel I have now is excellent, but i do find that it doesnt have enough buttons to quickly change settings., and it is a bit small for my hands.
