Where to buy cheap optical audio cables? (orded from Monoprice: $5.62=1.96+3.66)

Bought a soundbar on Boxing day. It need a optical audio cable to set it up. Checked Bestbuy and Futureshops, the cheapest ones are $25. There are a few cheap ones, http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/ ... 619ed3en02. However, they are only available online and the $7 shipping charge makes it $11. Any good suggestions? Thanks

They are normally under $8 for 6ft optical. Coax is a better option than optical !

Besides InfiniteCables, I also check Sayal from time to time. They usually carry RCA overstock items.

If he was to use coax for audio he'd be better off just using a composite video cable since they're cheaper.

My unit is Panasonic SC-HTB70 $100 from Target.

There are two inputs: optical from TV and RCA from DVD/BD. I'm currently using RCA cables to connect the soundbar with BD.

Tv optical outputs generally wont do anything. They're for sending audio info from a broadcast digital tv. So thats fine if thats what you're using. But if you have an stb, you'll need to connect the stb to the soundbar. Same thing if you have an xbox or ps. The tv wont pass those signals through.

what is a stb?
I am not sure what is different, but I do not have trouble getting sound from my LG TV
I use an HDMI cable from the DVD, Blu-Ray, or Xbox to the TV (which has both audio and video)
and a single toslink optical cable or coaxial digital (you can use a RCA/phono/composite/component cable) from the TV to a 5.1 or 7.1 surround receiver. That has all the channels encoded on one cable.

maybe your TV does not have the feature to output the audio from the HDMI input to the optical output

STB = set top box. Do new TV's optical out actually output more than 2-channel audio? Older TV's only output stereo audio and is pretty useless. If you wanted 5.1 you'd need to get it from the source device.

Set top box. The box that you'd have if you had satellite, digital cable, or IPTV.

Yeah, I thought most TVs were like mine and didn't have that capability.

InfiniteCables has an optical cable for $4.30. Even your local dollar store may have them too...

I could have sworn I had full 5.1 sound when playing xbox 360. does anyone know if there is a test setting where I can send a sound to all 6 speakers individually?
