I've always liked Canon's myself, but for my current purposes, seems like a huge tradeoff getting a Canon over the Fuji F31. I was thinking larger sensor too, but the Canon's with the larger sensor (A640/A630) also take 4 AA batteries, so they get kinda heavy and big.
Excellent battery life and fast flash recharge. The A630 is a great choice for the money: clean noise performance, good battery life, responsive processing, and a flip-out LCD.
Deal with it.

If you're looking at those Canon's, consider the Nikon P5000 also. Its a very nice well featured camera.

that camera actually looks pretty good, and still smaller/lighter than the Canon G7 (and cheaper!).

The one thing I read that concerned me was that the focus speed is slow, does anyone know how the focus speed of the P5000 compares with the other cameras listed in this thread?

I don't think the F31fd is hard to find in Canada because it's an older model. I don't think it is available in Canada, if you go on the Fuji Canada website the F31fd is not listed there only the F40fd is listed. With that said, I think it's much more difficult to find in Canada. Maybe places like Pacific Mall (in Toronto) will have it though.
It is listed on the CDN website, you just have to look for it.
It was introduced in Sept-06 and quickly replaced with the F40fd, eliminating the shutter and aperture priority features. You think that the F31fd cost them too much and they discontinued it.

I thought the F40fd was supposed to be the next version of the F20, while the F31fd was supposed to be the next version of the F30.

In any case, the F31fd seems to have more manual features, and if I get a Fuji it will be the F31fd.

hmmm that does make sense given the feature differences. So when should be expect the F31fd replacement?

I've played around with the F40fd at futureshop last week and I was pretty impressed! It's a lot quicker and snappier than my old S50 canon.. lol..

The F50FD has had some disappointing sample photos so people seem to be snatching up the remaining limited F31FD stock.

The Fuji F31FD is still available at JustFuji for $279.99 USD plus shipping (I think you can request USPS). There's also a $30 USD rebate if you have an Amerifriend.

It sometimes will pop up on Ebay as well for $222 to $235 plus $30 shipping from Japan.

Here's some other strange little online shop that sells them from Japan for $235 CDN plus $30 shipping.

Practically everything about the P5000 is slower than any Fuji F series or Canon. Pity since it looked like a promising camera.

I picked up my F31fd when I worked at Canada Computers, great camera, dad loves it. I hate point and shoots, I shoot with a DSLR and I occasionally borrow it to take it out to parties or clubs. That's how good the F31fd is.

may not seem disappointing when compared to other P&S in its class... but when u compare it with the previous generations of cameras (SD700IS/F31fd) it's pretty disappointing
