it seems that old dutch tried to launch here, but couldn't with the big boys already well established in the market... they dropped their prices significantly to keep old dutch outta supermarkets so they were here for a short time but pulled out..
i love old dutch chips too.. they rock! but ever since i moved to Toronto, i haven't had any -_-
i miss thunder crunch too :P
We don't even have Thunder Crunch out here anymore
Well, it's definitely rare to find, I love the hot wings flavour!!! And oh man, Old Dutch ketchup is the best. BLAH. I find they are so much better than Lays. The Lays just don't compare

I was back home in Winnipeg this past weekend visiting the parents and munched on a bag of Old Dutch salt 'n vinegar. Just like I remembered them as a kid. They aren't greasy at all like Lay's.
On another note, I saw Hostess brand chips in a store in TO last week. I thought that Frito Lay's had eliminated this brand after buying them out a few years back, but I guess they are making a comeback with this "Canadian" brand (that is owned by a US company).

Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis?! You can get boxes of ketchup flavour at Safeway, IGA, Save-On, and those are just the stores I know from recent memory.

For some unknown reason I feel like I almost imagined this flavour, and if it did exist, does it still or has it been discontinued, and if discontinued, approx. when?
Lays makes smoky bacon chips. which are AWESOME and my absolute favorite chips ever!
my next favouritenext is the Old Dutch onion and garlic, yum yum
and yeah, old dutch still come in the boxes with two separate bags. although the bags INSIDE arent clear any more, they are silver

Are the bags still next to impossible to open by hand without ripping them to shreds or relying on a pair of scissors?

no, they actually open easy now, the same as regular bag of chips where you just pull the seam apart
oh man, i remember those awful bags though. you couldnt even rip them open with your teeth without destroying the bag in the process

Hahahaha :p sorry my mistake! I shop at Superstore and Buy-Low Foods, and both those stores don't carry the boxes

okay, i was just at Safeway, and saw that they had old dutch 'Crispy Bacon' chips! so you're not imagining things! although i have NEVER seen them before by old dutch. they came in the bag only, no box
they were on sale at 3 for $4 or $1.34 each (wicked deal) so i picked up a bag. gotta see how they compare to Lays smoky bacon chips

West GTA
You can get Old dutch chips in a number of small convenience stores in Brampton. There's a place on the west side of Kennedy north of Queen in the Coffee Time strip mall and another in the plaza on the southwest corner of Rutherford and Queen beside the Plat It Again Sports store that carry them. Other places around town too.

I recall seeing some Old Dutch chips at The Canadian Superstores in Toronto. There are two locations, one is at Dufferin and Steeles (southwest corner) and the other is at Don Mills and Eglinton (Northeast corner) near The Science Centre.
