Well, do you read the sale flyers?
You can get them all online thesedays.
I have a folder with all the grocery store links saved for my city.
I look at that at the beginning of every week and then make a note to buy what is on sale.
I also try and use a lot of grocery coupons.
It is even better when u can get Delicio pizza for $4 on sale, plus using a coupon
As for cheap fruits and vegetables- I have no idea I never compare the price of them as I never buy too much at once...

I live in MTL and just look at the flyers like the guy above mentionned. I experience the same probem as you I am just too lazy to go to several stores and stuff so I just go and buy.
Here are some tips(basically things that I noticed).
-Metro is very expensive, try not to go there unless you have too.
-Look at the Loblaws flyer , from time to time, they will have a 0.88$, 1.00$ or 2.00$ sales. Some great stuff is on sale.
-Buy some stuff in big bulk at Costco...The price difference is huge even for Fruits and Vegetables SOMETIMES.
-Super C always have great sale prices, even their everyday prices are cheap for a lot of stuff. They also got their own brand(SuperC) which is not bad for some items and cheaper.
-If you really wanna cheap out, the cheapest you can go is marche Jean-Talon for Fruits and Veggies . I heard people going there. Some of my teachers go there...
These are things that I noticed.
