Where to take mom for her birthday dinner?

My mother's birthday is coming up (this thursday) and I am planning to take her to somewhere nice.

I saw Lumiere's $40 tasting menu for 3 course meal
however, ive heard that it isnt so impressive lately

and the atmosphere might not be as cozy as i am hoping for

so i could use another suggestion

how is Chow on granville?
or Seasons in QE park?

recommendations needed!!

thanks in advance

Sorry I don't have any suggestions but it was nice to hear that you are treating your mother nicely.

Il Giardino, outstanding for birthdays, let them know.
Been to Seasons in the Park and enjoyed it
The Cannery, spectacular venue and terrific food
The Fish House in Stanley Park or
Sequoia at the Teahouse at Stanley Park, Moms like places with a view.

West - always a good option, but can be expensive at times.

Top of Vancouver - you are getting mediocre food at a premium, but that is because of the amazing view up there.

Q.E restaurant- Can't go wrong with that. It is similar to Shaughnessy restaurant at the van dusan gardens. The S. restaurant serves up a really good duck confit. I think there are coupons in the entertainment book.
Too bad her birthday is not in Dec [festival of lights].

Cincin in downtown, but overpriced as well.

Try avoiding those chain restaurants, and the sandbar at granville island [mediocre food].

The keg is always a safe bet.

[If you have the money, West would be a very good option]

I've heard good things about Seasons at QE Park but I personally haven't been there. The Boathouse in Coal Harbor is also a very nice restaurant.

Let us know where you decide to go.

I guess the Keg is on a small chain (that reaches across the Country?) :cheesygri

The Keg is not a safe bet anymore. I went to 3 Kegs in a span of 2 weeks about 5 months back and they were all terrible! And why did they replace the sourdough bread with generic bread!

With your budget, Chow's a great place. Aside from the huge beetle crawling across my table and taking a nosedive off the edge, it was pretty good from what I remember. I didn't try the Prix Fixe menu though I may go back for that some time. It will add up quickly if you're ordering from the regular menu.

Another restaurant that may fit into your budget is Bistro Bistrot. Fantastic flavourful food in a nice setting.

It's in White Rock, so there's a bit of driving involved, but after dinner you could go for a nice stroll.
Always wanted to try there as Connor Butler worked there for a bit.

Hey, it happens. I'm not holding the whole beetle thing against them. I think you should try the place. I do plan to go back there some time to try more of their menu.

Google Maps route

Being that it would be rush hour, I would suggest you to leave earlier.

I haven't gone myself, but over the years I have had several friends go and the feedback has always been negative. One got so pissed off with a waitress that he didn't leave a tip (and he usually leaves one.. even if it's horrible).

Who knows, they might have improved in the past year or so, but I doubt it.
