Why my browsers are slow ?

When I browse internet and open many tabs on pages with a lot of ad contents, my Firefox could become non-responsive for up to 7-8 seconds, and that happen often when once started.

I tried Chrome but it was not faster, so I came back to Firefox.

My internet connection is 5mbps cable and I have cat 5 cable connecting router to my computer.

Thx

I think it's software-related. I have DDR3-1600 ram and if that's the cause then it should not in the order of seconds

Fragmented hard disk? Too many addons in either causing slow startup? ... is the rest of the computer slow?

Easiest thing to try would be using an ad-blocker extension. Something like Ghostery, or Disconnect. Some people recommend uBlock.

For me chrome is faster than firefox and the bottleneck is CPU speed. (unless you do something stupid like, not owning a SSD)

Flash is likely the culprit.

Chrome could be faster since it sandboxes + seperates own CPU threads, but uses more RAM in most cases so if your available RAM is low then it'll be just as slow (due to using HD for virtual memory).

Check the CPU utilization and RAM usage at the time you find it slow ..... It's not the speed of the RAM. It's the amount of RAM that might be the issue.

Could it be the internet? Unless it was a misprint, 5mbps is pretty slow for content rich websites these days.

Yes I have 5mbps with Ebox and I'm paying 31$/month all inc. I am very busy so most of the time my internet is just for checking emails (and for buying computer parts ;) )

I have used internet for 20 years now, and until now I don't know where to go to download a movie or a tv series.

I'm finding I have a lot issues with firefox and flash of late. Flash content takes forever to load if it loads at all. I may have to uninstall flash and re-install it again.

^ same here, singhrh, and it's been getting worse and worse. I reinstalled flash and it made no diff. Have tried many different solutions, to no avail.
We've been blaming it on us having an old computer, but now I'm wondering that may not be the prob.

I just installed Chrome and it's much faster than Firefox. Bye bye Mozilla after 7 years ...

The RAM usage is just the same as Firefox, probably 3-4% higher (out of 8GB)
