I had similar problems with Sleep Country. I bought a mattress there two weeks ago and realized the firmness of my mattress is not the same as the floor model which i tried on. I went to the shop and explained to the saleslady about my situation. She explained that it's because the foam is new and that's why it's softer, where as the floor model has been harden by people sitting on it. She told me that I should sleep on it until it's older and harder. Which I think it's an insensible explanation. I have bought several mattresses in my life, and I never had to spend time to sleep on the mattress until it's worned out to make it comfortable. So then I thought I want to exchange for a firmer mattress that is ready to use (not needing to sleep on it until it's hard enough), the saleslady just disappeared when a customer came in to the store, without asking me to wait. I also feel like they don't care about after-sale service. Whenever they made the sale, they just disregard you.
At first, I shopped at another mattress shop which is right next to sleep country, but they can only deliver the mattress in a week time. Since my family just moved into a new apartment, so we wanted to move in as early as possible. For that, I went to sleep country and told them about my situation. They offered me a comparable price + 10% off for the mattress I choose. So I got my mattress at the price that is offered by the other store and 10% off of that price. Now if I want to exchange my mattress for another brand, even at the same price level, I will need to pay $300 more. I will certainly not buy a mattress at sleep country if there were no discount, because their mattresses are generally quite expensive. For a similar mattress quality, I'm sure people can buy at a lower price at other mattress shops. So the 60 days comfort guarantee is not really a guarantee, because you will have to pay so much more to get another mattress. I will never shop at sleep country again.

Try Leons. They have a guarantee as well. I got a hard pillow top initially. I didn't like it, they replaced it about 4 weeks later, no question asked as per their policy. You do have to purchase a plastic cover to protect from stains though.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised that so many people have had a bad experience with Sleep Country. I bought my first good quality Queen mattress from them and the whole experience (except for delivery) was quite good.
My wife and I checked the store on Yonge in Downtown Toronto first and although there was a slight bit of sales pressure, we found a bed we really liked and the lady didn't blink when we told her we would shop around first and come back. Of course she said go ahead and she couldn't guarantee the stock they had (but if they had the stock, we would get the price quoted).
We shopped around at Sears & the Bay & down Scarborough (Kennedy Road). Pretty much anywhere we could get to without a car.
For the mattresses we liked, we couldn't get anyone to come close to the Sleep Country price with delivery, box etc.
Even after purchase, the sales lady called us once during the "trial period" and another time at the end of the trial period to see how we liked it.
I'm not sure what would have happened if we didn't like it but we did.
As for the problems with delivery, they missed the delivery date and it took a while to organize another date. We wasted a day waiting but we still got the mattress within a week.

The bed's been great so far, no complaints, was delivered when they said it would be. I declined everything else they offered -- frame (got it from a brick outlet for 2/3 the price at SC), bedding, extra warranty -- and stuck to just the bed.
When you deal with people on commission, as long as you know what to expect, you can get a good deal, just don't be shy to say you're looking around and don't be afraid to walk out... cause your deal usually sweetens once you decide to look in another store.
Sounds like we got the same sales person!

We dont sleep because we dont exercise and are too stressed. and dont exercise 20 minutes a day. exercise 2 hrs per day and do it intensely.
I don't deny that exercise plays a part in sleep.
By your logic though, since pain and stupidity also "happens in the brain", does that mean with some more exercise you'll get smarter and not feel it if you slept on a sharp rock?!

I'll be brief: there are plenty of OTHER stores where you can buy mattresses. The problem is that we have been brainwashed by smart marketing (sealy, serta etc). You do your initial research at Sleep Country. Then you do some more research and you can come across a manufacturer and buy a mattress for much cheaper. I refuse to pay 2000 for a piece of foam (or 4000 for memory foam).
Last year my friend recommended me to try this place on Norfinch (in Toronto). I bought a Queen size, firm for $700, delivered next day.
I also know another manufacturer in Brampton.

Auction purchase
I just bought a queen size mattress with box from an auction in Markham today. The bed is made by Binda Brothers in Canada. The name of the bed is called Alyssa The bid started at $1200and worked it’s way down. The first person to raise their hand started at $300. We ended up putting up our hand for $350 and we won it! With tax and 10% buyer’s fee it came to $435.
So the question remains whether I got a good quality mattress or not. I'm hoping these auctions aren't fake but who knows.
Any comments about auctions, if they bought a mattress from auctions and if they have heard of Binda Brothers Mattress Manufacturers

your experience sucks but I had quite a good experience 3+ yrs ago when I replaced a king set from Sleep Country. I got a good deal, the products was delivered and set up and the old bed was taken away.
A few days later, the frame came loose and was making a sound..I called the CS dept and a guy was here in 48hrs to fix it all up.
Based on this experience, I have once again gone with them to replace another two sets and its been smooth...the only problem I had this time around was with delivery mix up but it was not that big of a deal.
Hope your situation works out.

Thanks for your note
Sorry to hear about your ordeal. How horrible. Glad I read it! I walked into the Sleep Country in Oakville, last week, and did not like the service at all!!Went in just asking for information on buying a mattress and what to look for as I have never had to buy one!! I was immediately pounced on to buy something! Claiming that if I didn't take advantage of the prices today that I would lose the deal. I told him that was risk I was willing to take! I guess he didn't like my reponse, because he then proceeded to show me a mattress that he claimed was popular with University students and teenagers!!!Assuming that because I wanted information and I was asking questions, like a smart shopper would, I was just looking for the deal based on price. Not true at all!
I will suggest the next time you are looking for a mattress, go to Royal Mattress. They are fabulous there!
After your note I wouldn't even try another Sleep Country Location EVER!
Regards.

This is exactly what I experience at Sleep Country. Overall I'm happy with my mattress that I bought about three years ago. The salesman went on about this one mattress which was the last one in stock and that it was worth something like $2000 and we would get it for $1000. We ended up buying it because we liked it. We still like it and miss it any time we have to sleep elsewhere. The deal wouldn't go in the RFD hall of fame, but I think we got an okay deal.
The salesman gave us a bit of a high pressure treatment, but the worst part was the delivery. Obviously they subcontract delivery. The two guys who showed up were not professional at all. One of the guys kept staring around my house looking at everything with wide eyes. It was creepy. I asked them if they would take away my old bed frame. They said they would if I gave them a couple of beers. Like I'm going to give the driver beer. I just politely declined.

I hope this is a joke because this is one of the dumbest analogies I've heard.

Sleep Number bed at Sleep Country
The Sleep Number bed is starting at $750 on TV but the one I saw in Sleep Country was $4000?
Better check directly with the Sleep Number company for prices - I slept on their bed at a Radisson in Kitchener and I loved it.
It has two seperate sides - so each person can set their own number.

same here.
I remain very happy with the experience from the Yonge Street store (Summerhill)

I had a great experience when I bought my mattress. Bought the mattress and box spring on the mix and match. Was almost half price, cost me about $900. I know there markup is high but if you can get half off I think you are doing ok.
I didnt like the mattress so before my time was up I paid to do the switch. I ended up getting a more expensive matching set that cost about $1400 but was well worth the upgrade.
Both times the delivery guys were great. They took my old crap mattress, they were very careful not to damage my walls etc.
All and all I was impressed, sucks you had a bad experience.

my simmons bed sucks
we got a top of the line simmons beauty rest over 2 years ago from Sleep Country...initially it was nice and firm, almost too firm, but now my wife and I can barely sleep on it because of the sagging in the hip area. It's got these huge pockets that you sink into. It's terrible and we both wake up in pain every morning. And this bed is supposed to have a special zone in the hip area to provide extra support. The warranty covers any sagging over 1.25 inches so I am going to call Sleep Country and have them come look. This bed costs us almost $2500 and I'll be pretty pissed if I now need to buy another one. I think it's the last pocket coil mattress I will ever buy, especially anything with a pillow top.

agree with eejit 'Sleep Country"
Sleep Country does one thing extremely well... Fool people into believing that they' have the best price. In reality they're one of the most expensive
places to buy a mattress.
The price on the same mattress was $500 different from 1 store to the next.
With 2 different reasons for a discount.(mismatch, 1 left at another warehouse).
So how much is it really worth?
Sleep Country won't give you a price over the phone. They insit you go in so they can apply the pressure and give you a lame excuse like" it's the last one
and do you mind if it's mismatched?"
Do your homework, don't get sucked in by clever marketing.
