So last week I called RBC Bank main branch in Toronto (Bay & Front St).
The computer greeting I got is automatically spoken in BOTH English and then Chinese.
Does anyone else find this odd since Canada's official two languages are English and French. I know we live in a multicultural city but why was the Chinese language chosen? I say either have it in both English or French or just English.
Again this is from the MAIN BRANCH of RBC in Toronto that I called.

Haha... probably there are just so many people that speak Chinese in Toronto. I guess they're trying to compete with HSBC.

I would assume it's that while most people in the Toronto area who speak French as a main language also understand English, while the same is not always true for those who speak Chinese as a main language.

It's actually an easy explanation:
I've lived in Montreal for 2 years and what banks do is issue separate French and English bank card depending on which language you preferred. I had an RBC card programmed in French which every RBC machine in Canada would default to French, and you had no choice of English. I eventually got it replaced for an English card a few months ago. All the Big 5 except Scotia let you choose Chinese display, but they take care of French speakers by issuing cards in separate languages.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked tng11 for this post.

I'd laugh so hard if Francophones called RBC out on this in the news.

uh thank you for that easy explanation (?) althought that doesn't pertain to my question. My question has nothing to do with the bank cards or RBC ATM's at all.
I'm talking about using the phone to CALL the actual bank and getting a response back in English AND Chinese._______________
