Might be an issue with your cables. If I'm not mistaken, you'll need to buy the component cables for the Wii.

Wii
Hmm i just bought the wii and was wondering why my tv wont go to widescreen mode with it.
I have the westinghouse 27" one that was on sale a while ago at futureshop.
I clicked the widescreen but nothing much really changes.

Did you go into the actual Wii menu and set the Wii to display at 16:9?

Isn't it both? You need the component cables and to set it to widescreen. I've set it to widescreen before to see what would happen on composite cables and it doesn't change anything.

Ya, you don't NEED to have component cables, just go into the settings menu.
Though you can order really cheap component cables from here.

Yeah widescreen works on both composite and component. You don't need a new cable (although component does look better).
There are 2 things you have to do. First, as mentioned above, you need to change the Wii to 16x9.
Then you have to press the aspect or zoom button on your TV until it displays properly. My guess is you're missing one of these steps.
