gotta ask - is the Wii modded, or has been modded?

Wii repair?
So.. I have an XBox 360 and a Nintendo Wii.. the 360 is about a year older than the Wii, and given the reported failure rates, I'd figure if anything, I'd need to send the 360 in for repair.
Not so, it seems. My Wii is acting up.
I keep on getting "Unable to read the disc / Disc could not be read" errors (combined with an odd clicking sound from the Wii - sort of reminiscent of floppy drive errors of old..). At first, it was a mere annoyance - it only happened when I inserted the disc, and I chalked it up to (perhaps wishful thinking?) that I wasn't inserting the disc in properly or something.
Now, I cannot even play SMBG.. the game shows up on the Wii menu (unlike before).. but when I choose it, I get the error.
Aarg. So.. just wondering a few things:
1) Do I need to send this in for repair (I'm pretty sure I do..)?
2) How long will I be without my Wii?_______________
So long. I'm outta here.
