Wind mobile blocking port 25
I got an unlocked Samsung Galaxy s2x and signed it up with wind's holiday $40 plan.
Everything is great except for the longest time I could not get my phone to send emails through my company's exchange server.
We tried everything with my IT guys, reconfiguring, factory resetting, using different mail apps etc.
Nothing seems to work. The phone just doesn't want to send emails.
I don't know about Wind's customer service folks but wind's tech support must be getting their training manuals from rogers or bell.
"we don't support this phone, nothing we can do. you have to buy one of our phones" is all I ever got by calling them.
Last night a friend suggested to put in his sim to see if it's the phone or Wind.
I put in his rogers SIM and everything starts working like a charm.
So, I start goggling and it turns out WIND is blocking port 25 on their network.
They won't admit to it but if your exchange outgoing server is configured to use port 25 your phone will not send emails on WIND.
Let this be a warning to anyone thinking about switching to WIND.

ask your it staff if your mail server supports SMTP-SSL.
if it does you can use port 587 instead of 25.
you can also use 465 as an alternative with certain clients.

Most ISP block port 25 too.
It is to prevent spam.

I don't know of any provider that does NOT block port 25.
Bell, Telus, Rogers all do it.
Most e-mail providers now enable either a secondary SMTP port for non-SSL connections (many web hosting companies open up 26 or 2500).
While SSL enabled SMTP opens up port 465 and 587.

As I said, it works fine on port 25 on Rogers. So if Rogers are blocking it they're doing a piss-poor job.
