windows live messenger keeps freezing

i reformatted my desktop..
everything works perfectly fine but windows live messenger.
i sign in, the contacts populate, i can surf the contacts fine..
once i double click on a contact, it freezes..

i reinstalld and restarted a million times..
any ideas? i would use msn 7.5 but it made me upgrade to windows live which doesnt work. thanks in advanced guys

did you also install Norton on this fresh install? Norton causes all sorts of problems with Messenger or so my friends have experienced.

if you dont' use video then jus download another client, like pidgin or miranda. They can run Messenger no problem with no adds. You can also sign on to multiple accounts at once and differe im clients like yahoo or icq as well

i did download the new 8.5 thats my problem =(

and yeah i use video with my girlfriend quite often so yea..

i kinda want to fix the problem not find another method/alternative
