Heard nero didn't work on the previous builds. I'm running RC1 64-bit. Haven't had to burn anything... yet. ditto daemon tools, so I haven't tried to install any of those programs.
Pretty stable, having some trouble getting cell phone drivers to install... most other things are perfect though - video codecs, computer hardware drivers, Office 07 Beta 2.
I do have a question - if anyone knows.
Why is there both an x86 version AND a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. Why bother with two? the 64-bit seems to be identical to the x86 version. (no crashes or any bugs that I've noticed over the last week)

Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 will work with Windows Vista if you can get your hands on it.
Vista has improved by leaps and bounds and is very stable and quick IMO.
My computer rating is only 2.9 and Vista is still pretty quick and I get the Aero glass effects with a BFG 6200 OC (NVidia).Last edited by gordholio; Sep 18th, 2006 at 10:37 PM.

Rebooted last week and Vista-RC1 died out of my boot record. I switched back to XP.
Good, albeit still too sluggish for my tastes..the OS itself is fast, but I've found that disc access or something was really laggy...its like whenever you wanted to move a file or open a program there was a delay that I was not used to having with 2gb of memory...
OH speaking of that, Vista sucked up at very least 800mb on boot, and avg'd 1.26gb of my RAM if I was running extras (MSN, windows mail, uTorrent.)
Drivers found everything but the ATI driver still did not allow for cloning my TV.
Games played about the same, most worked. Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% do not work, but if you are running the 32bit, Slysoft CloneDrive will work for you (will not work on x64)
Avast! is a good free antivirus that works great on Vista too.
My computer scored a 4.6, the bottleneck being my processor.. everything else was 5.5 and higher. Whats that score out of anyhow? 10?Last edited by CodecX81; Sep 19th, 2006 at 07:36 AM.

So what's the verdict? We've got 3 PCs in our house, no way we could afford to upgrade them all to Vista - but I think most of them won't need/require it at all. I'd think just my main rig would be under consideration, and even then I'm gaming less and less on it.
Really, why would anyone move from XP for now?_______________
Rock it.

Been using it for a few weeks now. Great looking OS. My computer scored 4.0, limited by the processor. I did not use any of the betas before, so this seems pretty good. Still af ew bugs, esp when you network. Computers on a workgroup after you open them soemtimes duplicates themself, having 2 computers listed with the ssame name in the window. I hvae not tried burning anything yet.

My system specs are:
NF4 Ultra MB
A64 3200+
2x512MB DDR400
160gb Seagate 7200.9
Chaintech 6600gt 128mb
I've got a Performance score of 4.0 from Vista. The lowest being the CPU! (I found that a bit odd as I expected the ram to be the lowest, and the HD to be second.)
I have been having issues with Vista Shutting down. It seems to take quite a long time to shut down. In fact, I think it's only ever shut down correctly once. It just seems to goto a blank screen for about 10 minutes with the computer fans on, so I just hold the power button.... It's booted up normally without data corruption or loss after that, so I haven't been too concerned.

Sep 19th, 2006 09:02 AM #9I's saay its not necessary as XP is pretty solid. But as newer games and stuff come out, directX10 will be necessary.. and will not be compatible with XP.

Overall I DO like vista.. if it ran like XP it'd be great. It probably will, but the products gotta be polished off a lot before then.
But looking back, the beta of XP wasn't exactly great compared to the end result...so lets keep hoping.Last edited by CodecX81; Sep 19th, 2006 at 09:17 AM.

Sep 19th, 2006 12:02 PM #12dito. as much as the beta has been maligned, i'm sure by sp-1,2,3 it will be pretty solid (and who knows maybe we'll see the return of the new file system).

Vista RC1 has been running fine with the exception of one crash last night.
Even XP crashes the odd time though, so nothing out of the ordinary.
It starts up and shuts down faster than XP.

My RC1 was running great for a few days... but then I tried to get ATI TV (MMC) working and now it won't even see my video card... can't even reinstall the drivers... stupid Vista...
EDIT:
also I'm running on a Barton (Athlon xp 2500+) and I get a score of 3.2
. The CPU is the bottleneck of course.
