Settings->Apps showed me 500mb free for apps. I did not really investigate to find out where the rest of the space was. As I said it promptly went back in the box as it is/was a complete waste of my time.
Ok, just as I thought, they have a tendency to misallocate the internal memory for other apps. The new Lenovo A1000 tablet has the same issue with only 500mb for 8GB of internal memory !

This is $70 at Target. Use Target RED card to get extra 5% off.

That's a bit better. It's still single core, but it does have the composite out. I might grab it if it drops to $50. Thanks!

On a hunch, I looked on Canadian Tire's website for this, since they often carry RCA products. They do carry this, with stock showing in multiple stores in Edmonton. It's $99.99 at CT; if you price match against the Target price, you shoud be get $3 back in CT money, according to their pricing policy. Given the inflated regular price at CT versus their flyer prices, we might see this box for $50 in the flyer there, one day.

Are you sure it's the same one as this thread?
When I was at target last week, I only saw this one for $68 iirc,
http://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-DSB778W-S ... r/27537232
which is NOT and android box, and comes with a remote not wireless mouse.
It's nothing special (other than the old analog A/V outs if needed)...just the same as the what you can get built into most blu-ray players these days.

Anyone who bought this despite the weak specs who lives West of Manitoba and south of the Territories can buy the remote referenced in this thread from Bianca Amor's Supercentre, or online from eBay or Alibaba.

Canadian Tire has the RCA DB936 Android 4.0 Media Box on sale this week (Oct.4-Oct.10) for $89.99.

I've heard it runs Android XBMC smoothly, anyone else pick one up recently and try it out?

Its easier than apple TV in the sense you don't need to jailbreak it (if you didn't already for other reasons). Its very easy to install for just about any android device... how smooth it'll run is what you should try to research.

The only reason you still want to keep your old CRTs is to use with an old VHS videotape machines ! ...LoL
Speak for yourself. I use two SVHS decks to cap from either into my Pioneer DVD recorders or else into my Hauppage HDPVR2. The DVD recorders do a good job of upconverting the SVHS and VHS tape signal to display on my Sony Bravia in 720p or 1080i...

Old videogame systems, especially any with light guns NEED CRT sets. House of the Dead using my Dreamcast works great on my 32" Sony Trinitron. Won't work on the Bravia though...

I will pick up one of these when the price drops and test out on XBMC. Good thing is it has a 1 years enchange warranty at Canadian Tire.

A lot of comments on this box are unwarranted and I wonder if some people have even used it at all.
Here is my experience. this is a nice box although with some limitations.
I installed xbmc and works fine.
the best part about the device is
1) you get a wireless mouse with good range and works better than most remotes for smart boxes.
2) you can download android apps / games from play store.
3) create apps like a sony google player.
4) flash player installed.

I personally downloaded apps and they work fine.
only glitch is its like using a ace 2x in terms of speed and not a s3/ s4.
this is not my primary media player as I use other devices. I haven't tried all functions.
but I like it because it has flash support built in.
