Solo flick solidifies as a female director is hired

Of course we all remember Patty Jenkins being hired to direct Thor the Dark World

Apparently she will be seen first in Batman v Superman. Looks like nice casting, she's stunning and the suit isn't over the top. This is the director's film debut but she directed episodes of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.

And the ghost of Patty Jenkins rears her head as Maclaren and WB part ways over 'creative differences'

Apparently MacLaren wanted to create a film reminiscent of Braveheart, while Warner Brothers was looking for “a more character-driven story that was less heavy on action.”

I’m trying really really hard not to see this as a gender issue, but… I mean, come on. It’a a ******* gender issue. No studio would want a director to put less action into a Batman or Superman movie, or Spider-Man or the Avengers or whatever dude-driven franchise we’re talking about. But ladies = feelings, not large-scale CGI destruction.

It's so funny...yet ironic...that you mentioned this, because Patty Jenkins DID get the Wonder Woman gig...after a similar thing happened to her with Marvel and she lost the Thor 2 movie gig due to similar creative differences on that movie.

This is pretty hilarious!

Instead of Wife Swap....it's Director Swap!

Well made action sequences cost $ and WB must be trying to keep costs low. There is little evidence that a female superhero movie can produce blockbuster $, so from that point I can see where they are coming from. Yet if they truly want to compete with Marvel they need to take some risks and let their directorial talent do their thing without a lot of studio scrutiny, like in Green Lantern's case where interference ruined the movie and a huge franchise opportunity for them.

I was thinking likewise. Though this girl looks more like one of the many anonymous extras than Xena or Gabrielle. She's certainly no Lynda Carter.

Also, what's with the sword in place of a the Lasso of Truth?
