Wood Eating Bees? (Pictures of dead bees included)

I noticed sprinkles of wood dust on the ground in the backyard, underneath the shed. When i climbed up, i noticed a pile, thats right, a whole frickin pile of wood dust.

I saw perfect holes, 1cm in diameter, all over the wooden beam. My first reaction naturally was, "WTF"

At first i thought it was termites, cos what else eats wood right? To my surprise, a bee swarmed out of the hole.

Here are some pics. My question is , do bumble bees chew through wood, or are these bumble bees on steroids?

Yes, those are carpenter bees. They do eat wood and can do alot of damage. We had them in our sunroom in a farmhouse we lived in. We had a professional come and take care of them. We were then told to caluk all the holes up or they would be back.

How do they get in there?
I plugged up the holes with silly puddy, and bug sprayed it, not sure if that'll do anything though.

so they came out from it? maybe there's a hive there, call and exterminator and ask

They literally eat their way in coyori. If they have been there for a while they can have chambers several feet into the wood.

Well,
check for bees nests, they can be really well hidden sometimes, like under things and in corners.

I used to have a swimming pool and a couple times I was away for a week and came back to find a bee hive stuck to the side of the pool underneath a ledge.
I'm afraid of beehives, and we had bees that would actually attach people out of nowhere when you were outside.
(I got stung 3 different times just steepping out outside on my patio, not near the pool at all and 2 other people got stung mowing the lawn...not near where the bees were).

An exterminator will make sure the hive is knocked down and use strong products so they do not come back in the same spot.
some also have garantees for the summer.

I spent about $55 to have someone come and remove the bees nest.

If thats too much $ to spend, raid makes a bee/hornet spray that has some kind of horn on it that is supposed to work really well- costs about $8? or so.
