No, World of Warcraft isn't dying, it's already dead. Didn't you hear? Warhammer killed it, Age of Conan killed it, Guild Wars killed it, LotR killed it, SW:ToR killed it, Rift killed it and soon Guild Wars 2 will also kill it.
In all seriousness, World of Warcraft will chug along happily until Blizzard stops releasing regular content updates for it. It has got too much momentum from too many players who feel they're too heavily invested into the game for it to just shrivel up and die anytime soon.
What makes it such a behemoth is three fold. First of all, MMORPGs typically take such a huge time investment that you can really only have enough time in the day to play one. Secondly, MMORPGs absolutely suck if you're not playing it with friends so unless a group of friends all decide to jump ship to the same game as the same time, they more or less keep each other playing indefinitely. Lastly, tying into the first point, MMORPGs have the players get so invested in their in-game characters and items that people often keep playing long after the novelty has worn off simply because they don't know what else to do and they don't want to just abandon all their progress (same reason why people keep playing farmville essentially).
These three factors basically make it so WoW more or less sustains itself and going forward the only company really able to kill it will be Blizzard by cutting off regular updates or releasing a new IP which would fracture the player base.

Heh, WoW's down another 1.1 million subscribers in the past quarter. Can't say I'm surprised, considering it's been 8 months since the last content patch and MoP is still two months away. I suspect they'll get quite a few of those back once the expansion's out.

I lived the same thing as you. I remember downing the twin emps, that was sooo epic at the time. I restarted playing about 3 months ago (after quitting SWTOR) and now got kids and all and the priorities are elsewhere. Casual play works better for me know. No more drama (well alot less than in vanilla)_______________

Downing Twin Emps was fun, but I'll never forget our first C'Thun kill. We had been wiping to him for about 3 weeks, then we had what looked like a perfect attempt. Got through two weakened phases perfectly, but before we could get to the third the server hiccuped and we wiped. The very next pull didn't go nearly as well, our DPS seemed to suck and after 3 weakened phases he was still alive. It turned out to be a Mind Blast from a shadow priest that killed C'Thun...it hit for 6 damage because he wasn't in his weakened phase, but it was enough for the kill.
In the 3 expansions since, it was still the loudest screaming I've ever heard on ventrilo._______________

this happens whenever a MMO gets older, new MMO's come out and people get bored and move on and when people move on it feels like you should to because you're still in the old world....
I played Asheron's Call 1 and Dark Age of Camelot came out but I never got it but people kept saying AC1 is dead or dieing but to this day the game is still running (surprisingly)_______________
