You don't need to be 21 unless you plan to go into clubs/actually play the casino games/drink. The casino area is wide open, unlike Canadian casinos where it is a restricted area. Most shows are available for those under 21 as well.

Worth going to Vegas if you're under 21?
I'm thinking of heading to Las Vegas this August with my sister who isn't yet 21 (she's 19)... will it be worth going even if you can't get into the casinos? Do you need to be 21 to see the shows?
We're thinking of also going to Grand Canyon, but I would like to know if you can still be entertained/enjoy Vegas without the casino piece.
Thanks!

The age restrictions are for drinking/gambling. Keep in mind that if you are under 21, there is not even any loitering permitted in the gaming area (e.g. you can't even watch).
There are many family type shows as well (i.e. good entertainment, not just kiddie).

Walk around and check out all of the cool hotels. There is a rollercoaster ride on top of New York. You can hang out and sunbathe by the pool. Window shop at Caesars, then do the good shopping for her at the outlets.

I wouldn't go until everyone going is 21. I went to Vegas last summer and I was inebriated the entire time... you get free drinks in the casino, there are vendors on the sidewalks selling beer and frozen alcoholic drinks, poolside buckets of ice cold beer from chicks in bikinis, even alcohol served at cirque du soleil shows. the entire trip i had a drink in my hand, it was amazing.
I guess it really depends on what you want to do. To ME, vegas = gambling, clubs, drinking, and overall bad behaviour, so i'd wait until 21. but then again, i wouldn't go with my sister either._______________

I had a discussion with my sister about this a while ago(she is 19). We came up with the conclusion for this:
No gambling
Some area restricted
No Drink(21 to drink there!!!)
Then pretty much left with show.... IMO not worth it

If she hasn't been. It's worthwhile going there to see it.
I am not a great fan of Vegas but it is one of the should-see places, if not a must-see place.
I have lost count how many times I've been there. But I have never gambled a dime there. Casinos are sick, full of smoke and gross anyways.Last edited by bilibulu; Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:02 PM.

It also depends on how long you are planning on going. If you are going for 5 or more days, you don't have to stay on the strip Vegas.
- Take a day trip to the Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire or the Grand Canyon (GC is probably a 2 day trip)
- There are some off strip places to see and do like Ethel M's Chocolate Factory as well as factory outlet shopping.
- Take a Helicopter tour (Vegas, Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon all on one trip)

Oh yes. Well, I didn't look because I usually just sprint pass the casinos if I am forced to pass through them. But I generally can smell this poisonous gas in them.
I hated it when I was in MGM Grand for a conference. I had to pass through the casino and the smoke almost killed me.

Yes it is still worth going. There are some magic shows she can watch. You can pass by any casino but you cannot stay there to play.

Goin to vegas and not being able to drink, gamble, and club/bar hop is brutal... especially for a 19 year old! the shows are in vegas are alright, but for a 19 year old its somethin that would get old pretty fast....
for the same price you could get an all inclusive to cuba/mexico where you can do everything at 18... aside from disneyworld as a kid, travelling in the states can only fully be appreciated when u hit 21...
