Would you elect someone who admitted using cocaine - while in office ?
It was reported that André Boisclair was named the new leader of the Parti Québécois Tuesday evening. He's a former PQ provincial cabinet minister that admitted to cocaine use while was in office. He got elected......I guess the PQ delegates don't think cocaine use is a ' big deal ' ( Actually i think the Premier of BC got charged with drunk driving and got re- elected too ! )
Would you re-elect a provincial MPP if he / she admiited to using cocaine use ( knowingly broke the law ) - WHILE IN OFFICE ?????

' Mr. Boisclair was dogged throughout the campaign for his use of cocaine while he was a cabinet minister with the PQ. Boisclair admitted he used cocaine between 1996 and 2003. Mr. Boisclair brushed aside the issue, claming he'd stopped using the drug eight years ago and had never purchased it himself.
"I've never had problems of consumption," Boisclair said. "I have never been in a situation where I was under the influence of anything when I carried out my responsibilities as a member of the legislature or as a cabinet minister
He eventually refused to answer questions about his past drug use, chalking it up to a youthful indiscretion. He even threatened to sue one of the other candidates if they continued insinuating there were more skeletons to be found in his closet. 'Last edited by poedua; Nov 17th, 2005 at 03:48 PM.

At the same time I think some other people should be as open and honest as he is. At least he is confronting it and dealing with it. Not like his party will go anywhere anyhow, so does it even matter?

If Bush can be elected TWICE....enough said. Other politicians hide their secrets better, this is one should be commended for being honest.

i honestly think hes trying to be the next pierre elliot trudeau by being unique and different. I wouldnt vote for him for his stance because Im an NDP guy myself but if he had some good stances then sure I mean if hes not using it anymore why not but if hes currently using it then definently no I dont want my tax dollars going to crack money for some politician.

By the way his cocaine use was very widely debated here as being very bad, and many think is not good, expect around 56,300 separatists who voted for him

What if it was pot that he smoked? Would we even be having this discussion? Not likely.
It's in the past, it's not like he's a current user, and it's not like he was heavily addicted and was trading sex for drugs. He did it for recreational purposes a long time ago, give the guy a break.
In my opinion, all drugs should be legalized, taxed and regulated, and this is coming from a law enforcement perspective.
The guy admitted what he did and took responsibility for it. If you punish him for being honest, the next guy that comes along will lie about everything._______________

I agree with you, personally I wouldn't elect someone, how is he/she a role model for the country?

Yes, if he used it in the past and when questioned about it and didn't lie what's the big deal? So its better if you did take it and lied about it? Media is screwed up on this one, they basically threw him into a no win situation.
As long as he wasn't going around committing crimes against other people it doesn't really make a difference imo. In fact if he told the truth he would get my vote.
