Just install the latest firmware and it work fine for xbox live.
I use the same router for xbox live.
The only tweak I had to do was turn on DMZ in the router. Basically that forwards all ports to and from the xbox. I had to do that or I would get dropped from games from time to time.

WRT54G firmware
Hi, I'm going to buying a Linksys WRT54G router with the purpose of using it as a wireless bridge to connect my xbox to the wireless network in my home. What's the best firmware for this? I also heard that with special firmware, the router can tunnel for me, instead of having the PC running. Is this true?
TIA_______________
I hope Life isn't one big joke because I don't get it.

Sveasoft makes 3rd party firmware, but apparently violate the GPL agreement by charging $20 for a year subscription to his site for the download(s).
TheIndividual has taken issue with this as Sveasoft is apparently threatening legal action over site distributing "his" code. So he has re-released the code here:

Apr 7th, 2005 10:15 PM #6I am using my wrt54g for this exact purpose. Using Satori. Alchemy didn't seem to work last I tried. Note that Sveasoft's firmware does not seem to be too efficient, albeit still adequate for streaming divx. Max transfer speeds were around 90KB/s while my laptop was able to max out my 5Mb Rogers connection (around 500KB/s). This was a d/l test from the net.
