Xbox 360 questions
I just got a really hot deal on a 360 arcade which is nice since I got scammed on the first deal I made (luckily got my money back on that one). Anyways, I ordered and HDMI-DVI cable to play on my monitor, but can I get audio from my PC sound system? Hopefully this is possible, or I'm going to be playing without sound.
Alright, I can't even get my RCA cable to work on my old TV....Maybe I'll just purchase a VGA cable with audio outputs. But does anyone know why the picture might not be showing up on my tv? Audio is working....

No, the audio does not route to your monitor via DVI.
What I did was use the HDMI-DVI for video and optical out to my sound system separately (possible with Z-5500).

Where is the optical out though? I'm looking at the back of my console and I don't see anything at all....Pic please?
I still don't know why, but no picture is going on my TV.

optical out is on the back of the AV cable plug... its part of the plug, not the console.

You bought the Arcade system which comes with the composite cable.
Good News: You can fit it under the HDMI port (unlike the component) which allows you to use the stereo plugs for sound.
Bad News: If you have a surround sound set with optical sound, this method won't work.
Buy this on www.monoprice.com. You can plug that into your sound card or speaker receiver. If you want to plug your headphones or speakers right into it, add one of these to the item I listed.

Oh wait, so the 3.5mm plus is going directly into the xbox 360?
And yea, I'll be ordering that 20gb soon. It's a great deal for me since I paid $130 for the BNIB console

Yep. So you do HDMI -> DVI on the video slot. You plug the composite cable you have into the 360 and plug the red and white cables directly into the adapter I linked to.

Ok, that should work then, thanks! But the two cables wont fit together, so I'm going to have to remove the casing on the composite cable right?
EDIT: Oh just read your post, and it says that both cables can work together, that's great!

Alright, I have another question as well. I just created a xbox live profile to try it out, and I put in my main e-mail. Is it possible to make it not sign me into windows live messenger when I go onto xbox live (it signs me in with the xbox live personal message). I really hate when it does that right now since I'm just trying things out. Also, can I change the name of a gamer tag? I just created a random one that I will not keep. If not, I can just delete it and I'll still get a free month right (the first 3 gamertags get a free month right?)

Click your gamer card, go to auto-sign in.
it costs $10 to change your gamertag.
You'll have to use a different email to create your new gamertag. You can't just delete it.

I tried it today, and the HDMI cable with my composite cable can't work together...Do I need to do that mod that was listed earlier in this thread, or something similar since it's a different cable?
Well, I cracked open the case so everything should be fine now. I still don't have the DVI-HDMI cable (I just tested it with a normal HDMI cable), so I'll try it when it comes probably sometime this week.

Well I tried it today, but I can't seem to get the audio going. I'm using a cheap 5.1 setup that is also connected to my PC. I have the cable you told me to get, but don't need it since the back of the subwoofer (also the receiver) has a port for one red and white wire. I plugged it in, but no audio works. Are there any settings I need to change? There are different sources I can put, one of them being game, so it should work....
