Today's (December 20) "deal" is a free new year's theme (normally 240 MS points).

I just downloaded this, I don't understand how this is a premium theme, its got the same old appearance in your friends list, nothing new except for the wallpaper, unless I am not seeing something specific.

Yeah, Microsoft went cheap with this "premium" team. But free is free.

In the preview picture for the theme, it does show different backgrounds for your friends list, but the theme itself does not contain them. Usually Premium Themes are at least 10mb. So when I saw that the download was a measly 2mb, I knew it was lacking some of the Premium flair. Ah well. Free is free.

According to Major Nelson this was some sort of screw-up. I you follow him on twitter he says:
If you downloaded yesterday's non-premium theme for free, you can go back and re-download the premium one for free once it's been replaced.

So there you have it - what we got was a non-premium theme.

I'm confused, do we actually need a Gold Membership to buy Shadow Complex?

There's some confusion about today's (December 21) deal as even Major Nelson doesn't know for sure. According to him it's Avatar Golf for 200 points. But it's for US/Japan only.
If you click on the link below though it shows up as only 160 MS points. If you can't buy it with a Canadian account I suppose you can create a U.S. account and try it.

For the non-US deal I heard that it's supposed to be the Lips song "White Christmas" for 80 MS points (normally 180 MS points). This is unconfirmed though. I'll post if I get anything concrete.

Yes, a Gold membership is required for the Xbox deal of the week. You can always get a one-month Gold membership or create a new account on your Xbox and get a free one-month Gold membership (I believe you can only do this a total of five times though).

Okay, I finally was able to get in front of an Xbox 360. Today's (December 21) deal is the Lips song: "White Christmas" for 80 MS points (normally 180 MS points). I can't find a direct link this time but the deal is available right now through your dashboard.
Also available today is Avatar Golf for 200 MS points for US/Japan accounts only. However it's showing up as only 160 MS points in the link below.
Direct link: Avatar Golf
Finally, Shadow Complex is available this week (December 21-December 27 ) for 800 MS points (normally 1200 MS points) for Xbox Live Gold members. Whew!

If you downloaded the free New Year's Premium theme from 20th December, then go ahead and re-download it (check your download history). The PROPER theme is now available.
On a related note Major Nelson said he won't be updating what the deal of the day is on his twitter account until after 11 a.m. now. Plus the dashboard's deal of the day has not yet been updated either. It'll show up later. I'll update the thread when I hear something.

Today's (December 22) deal is the movie/Zune video "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" for 80 MS points available through your dashboard. "Enjoy" this cult-classic, campy horror flick.
