what's the header on the ticket...if it's not provincial...then don't worry about paying it...easy to check...look on the back of the ticket and if it says to pay at a court house/municipal office, then pay it....if not, it'll be some sort of PO Box...then don't....
I got ticketed plenty of times at U of T Scarborough campus...and they were actually issuing municipal/provincial tickets..so had to pay...they weren't actually the rental cops posing as "campus security", I had rumours they actually did have the same authority as OPP...makes since since they were all armed.

York University Parking tickets
I am a second driver in my mother's insurance. I parked her car at YU and got a ticket. Of course she is neither a student nor her car is registered at YU. Do anyone know what would happen if I don't pay. Do you think they would come after my mother who is the car owner?

If it's a University, it will be endorsed by the city and must be paid. Yes, they will come after your mom if it doesn't get paid.
Just pay the fine, otherwise your mom will get a conviction letter in the mail and it will go to collections if not paid after that._______________

No? They just withold your diploma until you pay. But, if you don't go there, then it doesn't matter.
My friend visited his gf dozens of times at York U after he graduated, he's no longer a student there so they got nothing on him. When he was there and got a ticket, they threatened to not let him graduated until he paid off the $300 he owed.

I remembered that York didn't allow me to graduate because of an outstanding parking ticket. At the end I needed to proof that was not my car and it belonged to someone who has similar name as me. It was their mistake and luckily I didn't miss the convocation.

This question pops up every four months. If you want a briefer on York's ticketing, read the York University Act. York has the right to ticket just like any municipality would.
Also, it doesn't matter if the car is in your name or not. As long as your moms address = your address on York's file they'll be on your back.

not just parking tickets... late library fees, health service fees... anything you didn't pay, they will hold your degree.
as for the ticket itself... each university might be different. they have no legal hold on you outside the campus. you might want to read the rule book or something.

So basically if I rent out my basement and that person also goes to York with me and he ends up getting a ticket and never paid them back, I cannot graduate? It's not my fault that the guy decides to ignore the ticket and it has nothing to do with me but I won't be able to graduate until he pays it just because he's under my address? I know these institutions are hungry for money but it's an unfair system they have there.
Also, I was just trying to provide an "extreme" situation to counter the university's actions..._______________

nope
If you don't pay the ticket, the registered owner of the car will have their diploma held back. In the case of the op, your mom wont graduate from york
. I know people with over $1000 owed over 4 years and they were able to graduate since the car was in their parents name.
York actually relies on parking tickets as a constant source of income. Their parking people have a certain quota of tickets they have to give out. Don't pay a cent unless your car is registered there (which mine is
)

I've herd that whoever is the registerd owner will have their marks, diploma or degree held back from them until they pay the fines. Now since your mom is the owner that means she wont be getting her grad paper.
Ohh yeah I've also herd that a empty future shop gift card will fool the machine and open the gate.

UofG
I had a few parking tickets from U of G while visiting my girlfriend. They threatened to hold my transcripts until I paid them... I told them to go ahead since I went to Ryerson.
Gueplh had some crazy parking laws that only were ineffect during the winter months, that made overnight parking on school property illegal overnight. Oh well, it is what it is.

I remember when I went to York U, it was cheaper to park illegally in the unreserved lots and pay the tickets than it was to pay the unreserved parking fee.
Guess which route I chose?
