I didn't apply to York but I have residence here through Seneca at founders college.
Anyone know anything about that residence? I assume it's pretty bad, since Seneca students get leftovers. I'll probably just buy a laptop and try to spend most of my time outside of my room.

Ok, did I miss something because how come no other media outlets except the globeandmail reported this?
Did York try to brush this under the table like nothing happened? I am totally surprised in this day and age, that stuff like this doesn't get reported more. I guess as students, we pretty much don't need to know anything about incidents of this nature.TORONTO — A man claiming to be a student expelled from York University made threatening phone calls to Toronto police this week, saying he'd “blow up the school” and shoot people on campus, citing a professor he blamed for his expulsion, officers say.
But on Friday, three days after the first threat, the York University Faculty Association, representing professors, hadn't been told that one of its members was directly threatened.
“We weren't informed as to the exact details of the threat,” Arthur Hilliker, YUFA's president, said in a statement to The Globe and Mail.
Police got the first calls Tuesday night around 11:20 p.m., Detective Paul Worden said. A man, who sounded like he was in his 20s, said he was upset with a York professor – he never gave a name – and that “the school will pay” later in the week.
The next evening, at 10:14 p.m., a man who sounded like the Tuesday caller phoned, threatening the university. At 12:36 a.m., another call. Two more were received later that night, all believed to be from the same man, police say.
“It's clear it's the same guy. He's got a particular beef and has been repetitive,” Det. Worden said.
Police began an investigation and York sent out a campus alert to its community.
It read: “Toronto Police Service is investigating a general threat made against the university.” It gave emergency numbers, alerted people of the police involvement, and said more information would be available soon.
Ultimately, the threats were not carried out, and Friday, York was “back to normal,” spokesman Alex Bilyk said.
The York Federation of Students also found out about the threats through Thursday's campus alert, said Gilary Massa, 23, vice-president external of YFS.
That two-day delay between the threats and the alert surprised David Robinson, associate executive director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers. Any strategy for a response to such threats, he said, “generally involves that you alert everyone on campus.”
Also, I'd like to say that I only found out about this READING the PAPER and not through some alert from the school. I have to say, that makes me EXTREMELY DISSAPPOINTED.

I am a bitter about this too....I was on the yorku website on Thrusday, planning to leave to write my final exam at 8pm. I saw the notice posted by york, but it was very vague. I feel that more details could have been released. Really, I wouldn't of gone if I knew about this....what if it really happened. More information should have been released during the investigation.

Are you faculty or a student? Just curious, if it was ONLY profs who received the alert. I'd say double standard right there.
In an era after the Virginia Tech incident, stuff like this shouldn't be taken lightly.
All this hush hush over this incident, lack of media reports, nothing from the YFS/Exacalibur or York Security mentioning WHAT the alert is about just absolutely sucks.

It's arguably the worst residence at York (it's also the oldest). With that said, it doesn't mean that it isn't fun..cause it is. I stayed there for my first year and there were always great little parties (not too much though...that's what calumet was for).
The rooms themselves are either single or double rooms. Bathrooms (and showers) are scattered throughout the floor and are shared with others on that floor (generally clean). There is also a general lounge area to watch tv, etc. One wing of the three wings is also a womens only wing.

I will be staying at Founders Rez for this semester and I feel really crap for applying there now. Thanks for that.
EDIT: Philly, I'll be taking Life Beyond Earth and AK ADMS 2500 too. Hope to see you in classes. By the way, how come you've taken a full course load for the first year? I have 4 courses for Fall and 4 for Winter.Last edited by hitender_s; Aug 6th, 2008 at 12:56 AM.
