Yeah, I think I'm more afraid of whatever it is that's causing me to die and the subsequent pain I will receive.

I believe most if not all of us in some way or form,
have a fear for the unknown.

And your question ponders an unknown of the ultimate and perhaps final kind...

Is there life after death?

Is there a Heaven for "good" people?

Is there an eternal place of punishment and torment for "bad" people?
Sinners?

Will one ever see her/his loved ones again in the next life?

Does a next life even exist???

So I think that ^ is where our "fear of dying" comes from.

Through personal observations..

I gotta say that those who have experienced life altering events (i.e those who have came very close to crossing that fence) develop a deeper appreciation for life.. + a profound respect and understanding about death.

And that understanding I think has a significant element of fear mixed in there somewhere

I fear death. Sometimes when you're in bed imagine that one day your body will either be under 6ft of dirt or cremated.

It makes you appreciate life even more.
