In some cities it is different by area's as well. Some places have to be in a tourist area to be open on holidays.
edit: looks like it is set by the province...
LinkAs part of the resolution Mississauga Council will ask that the Province clarify the Statutory Holidays Act and the ability for retail stores to open, should they choose.
perhaps look up the Statutory Holidays Act and see what it says. Like I said above I know places in tourists area's are allowed to stay open. I.E. downtown T.O., Niagara Falls and such.

Hopefully these stores remain closed. observe the holiday. Cant you live one day without needing to go shopping??

i think if you have employees you gotta let them take a day off or something (don't quote me), the owners themselves can however keep the store open
