I use it a lot, since I can pic my exact time for each course I can pick the Prof as well.
And at York there are a lot of people so there are almost always 2 or 3 Profs per course.
It's also usefully for figuring out electives based on difficulty and such.

You guys use www.ratemyprofessors.ca ?
Hi everyone
It's almost back to school. Do you guys use ratemyprofessors.ca? lol
I've used it during my first year and it was really helpful. As the semester went up, there was only one prof to teach almost every course. :/
Overall, I guess ratemyproessors.ca will help you out in your first year at college/university,

since they always kicked me out of the "electives" that I chose in back in April, I always use this to figure out which class I wanna enroll in......since I'll be lost in all of them with no interest anyway, might as well pick one that might get me a higher mark with a more relaxed environment.....
...but beware....some ratings cannot be trusted......
...someone once voted that a certain prof was "HOT", well, .....lets not go there shall we...? :/

I find the site to be surprisingly accurate on every prof I've had. If you see a prof with blue faces for a whole page, RUN; wait for the next semester if you can.

It's not accurate, some people have certain issues with prof. because they have a specific style like they won't u do something during lect, like eat or no phone policy or no talking. So they rate them down. In some large classes it's quite annoying to see people chat right in front of you even if other people farther out are not annoyed. Small % of profs are acctually bad from my experince.

I looked at that site a lot, but I took a lot of specialist courses and didn't really have a choice about which professor I learned from. But the ratings still were still very accurate IMO.
My mom is a professor though and she always goes on about how great her ratings are.

I've checked the site before enrolling in just about every single one of my classes. I find that it's much more important to read the comments than looking at the numbers. If you ignore the posts that sound like "OMG, this loser old guy prof asked me to leave the room for talkin on my cell," the site it pretty reliable.

When 90% of the reviewers have spelling/grammar problems, and use loaded or derogatory language, I like to give the profs the benefit of the doubt.
I honestly don't care if you're trying to "reflect who you really are" with your ghetto typing, netlingo, or 1337 speak - if you type like a 8 year old on a public forum, I'm going to think you are one.
I glance at it every now and then, but I'm sure that most bad reviews arise from bad students.

Aug 20th, 2006 12:29 AM #14chriswalshGuestYou can skip those ones, also it probably depends on the program. I've never really used it before, but this is the first prof I looked up:

-Wise man, Very nice and helpfull Prof. Not out to screw you
-Fun to be in his class...
-Great prof, really cares about sudents
Also, my school requires we rate our profs the last 2 weeks of class. The results are posted online, and have much more detail (30 different categories), but no actual comments. Other schools probably have it too, take a look.

I would take all the reviews with a grain of salt, even the positive ones. Sometimes you might just find that you don't mesh with the professor even though 5 other people found him fab.
