TA will work if you setup your plan properly. News is how TA works. News simply MOVES prices to quality demand/supply zones. How you would play NXY is, after this gap up, did it land into a SZ ?

Answer: yes. SZ: 25.84 to 26.82. Daily chart. So short if price comes up to this. Stop above 26.82.

So if you looked at the charts, after the gap up, price was 26.19 (high), so say short around that 26 bucks. Assume you can't catch the high.

Current price = 25.56
Profit per share = 0.44 so far Not too shabby !

With any trades, you need to have a stop loss. So any suddenly news movements you will be protected. NXY: the day before it jumped up was NOT in any supply zone, 17.06 is not any good shorting levels. So one wouldn't be in this trade to begin with. Also the R/R isn't good at that level, so again, one following TA would not short that there.

Stop Limit: it means you will ONLY sell if the price hits that price that you set. So if the price drops LOWER than your set price, your broker will not sell your shares, and still waiting.

You should almost always use: STOP

i disagree with you on this one. basically after gap up NXY is another new stock. there is only 6 trading days including today. there is only 6 candle in daily chart and it is not enough data to draw a resist line(or SZ in your term) imho. (if you say hourly chart thats another story)

Your charts aren't showing up (or maybe its just my laptop?) To draw the zone, I'm not using the 6 days after the gap. You draw the SZ from past historical prices BEFORE the gap. For example NXY's supply zone is here, from the daily candle from 2011 May 3 to 5. See chart below.

That is your zone to short, IF price every comes into here. And then , price comes up to here (due to the take over news), and that's when you'd short because it came right into this supply zone.

In fact, think about it, WHY did price not go thru this zone and up more? Because of supply > demand there at that level. If you think about this more and more, how it is represented on a price charts, you will soon see how TA works.

So you can see, my 2nd chart below showed what happened after it gapped up, it hit the supply zone and for 6 days now, have proceeded slowly downward, as it should. Where would it turn up potentially? I say around $25 area. Because that's another supply zone at 2011 July 21 (supply turns into demand)

I still hold my believe takeover news make TA less valid. the charting damage the news put on, plus the fact that there is an unlimited demand at takeover price by the takeover party outnumber any supply.
as soon as gov't approve, it it will gap up to u$27.50-interest till payment date.

Sure, just know that TA doesn't change when there's news or whatever. You plot the lines no matter what. Demand you are talking about is for going long (up), and right now, NXY is not a place to go long yet. You'd want to go long lower on the curve, its super high right now. And in a Supply zone (as I drew), so play is SHORT, but don't short right now as its out of the zone.

In a TA view, NXY is a pass, there's nothing to do with this stock to make money TA wise. Unless you shorted in that zone I drew. So move on to another stock. Scan for other opportunities, hundreds/thousands other ones out there.

And NXY short is continuing to work today..... price now is 25.42 (on post above, I mentioned one would short at $26)

So that's working, profit of $0.58 per share so far. Price should be able to come down to 24.93 area.
