My dad got the Philips installed., and it still works fine.
I decided to open up the RCA for my the kids play room where...somehow the lnt4661F wound up being installed
...so far it's good too. I'm only worries about the Philips I bought for my OWN Living Room set-up which because of being so bloody lazy I haven't installed yet. Man would it suck if it's a dud, and I get SOL'd hehe....sigh...the gambles we take on RFD day-in-day-out

I had outlined some time ago that both the 259 and the Philips 3555 were both PAL compatible. The only real drawback about the 259 is that there was no multi-region hack readily available that I could find at the time.

Generally speaking, yes...however you never know what Zellers may say.
Now, not that I endorse this, but you could always buy one, then a day or two later return the defective one. Or something else I know works from time to time - buy one, get a gift receipt, then return the one you just bought unopened, but keep the gift receipt - then you're within the return policy. Ain't that special?

Anyone have their RCA system crap out?
I hate to dredge up old threads, but how many people still have their RCA system working now? Mine stopped powering up about a month ago..
Has anyone else had issues with their system?

My RCA still works fine. It used to make an awful buzzing noise that was driving my wife nuts, which drives me nuts. ;-)
I cracked it open and it turns out the exhaust fan mounted on the heat sink was secured too tightly. The fan blades were being pinched so I ever so slightly loosened the screws and haven't had a complaint since.

I always check the clearance area at Walmart stores when ever I pass one when I am on vacation in the U.S..
One Walmart I visited last week had a Philips HTS3450 (the older one without the upscaling) for $199 on clearance
I managed to scoop two 3450's and two 3555's at Zellers last year.

I'll try that. I figured it was the fan. Sometimes had sucess turning off and on.
I was going to take a look at fan, but reading your comment gives me assurety of the problem. I bought 3 in different styles.

The philips model has a fix if the sound goes out. Seach on the net, if 2 capacitors have burnt the glue beside it, its probably it. Not the 2 biggest ones. So dont throw it out if it stops working. 2 x $1.10 to fix it. or find someone to solder it for you. PM me for the site if you need it.

My Philips HTS3450 is also going strong.
The Sony KDS60A2020 set is on it's last legs with the burnt optical block.
So I would say it was a good buy....
