Lets you select the specific city/country among NYC, London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Kowloon

Seems very fast. Tested to work on us sites. Use it for your pandoras, google voice, hulu, etc.

This probably will not remain free, but hey, use it in the me

Google Voice doesn't need a VPN. Might need it for initial registration but otherwise it works fine. Besides I'm wary of these free "VPN" services. Could be NSA collecting more data. It's best to just divert your DNS for specific websites to ***** or whatever service you can get your hands on.

Thanks OP.

My speed is about 4Mb/s with the ZenMate extension on. With ZenMate off, I'm getting about 12Mb/s. Just curious which server you ran your tests on ? (I used techsavvy)

First the NSA already has all data, second by changing your DNS you can never be sure that it's only sending the desired domains to a fake server, it can be sending other ones you don't know about. It's no safer than VPN. But I agree, free VPN services are not to be trusted. Better roll your own.

You're right about the loopholes within the DNS redirection which is why I specifically said that the users should redirect specific domains (Hulu, Netflix, etc) to the DNS service; not their entire internet traffic.

Here's how I configure mine for the whole house in Tomato with Dnsmasq:

If anyone is interested in the complete list of websites that I redirect, let me know and I'll post it here.

At first I thought it was because I did the 2nd test with zenmate at NY setting at the corresponding nearest server, but after redoing it twice at different toronto based servers, it must be that Teksavvy's servers are slower or more busy, retook the test with zenmate ON at teksavvy

and another with Start

BTW thanks to others who contributed alternate services, I bookmarked them for future use.

RE: NSA, i was following the stories with half an ear, apparently there is just no use. At all. Some major software apparently has backdoors, or the NSA can just knock on anyone's door and take the stuff.

So if you're really a terrorist, they will find your passed out drunk facebook pictures whether you like it or not. Just don't do it yo. The virgins aren't worth it, go get some clean girls for $200/hr and be done with it

If only NSA limited itself to planting backdoors in "some major software".

What NSA has been doing is far more sinister. From indiscriminately stealing internet, text and phone records of million of people from China, Germany, Spain, France, Portugal, Finland, Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, India, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran and much of Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia et. al) to spying on United Nations and the entire internet itself. Heck, NSA owns switches and routers to make their job easier. Give it a few CA certificates, not all that difficult if you are NSA, and it makes a mockery out of the public key sharing. It doesn't even matter if you use SSL or not. MITM will get you regardless. Sure, spying on other government or military targets of a nation has been an acceptable practice. However spying on the entire world population is a new standard in techno-fascism.

And if spying on the entire world wasn't enough, NSA has actively worked to manipulate and weaken technical specs for various cryptographic standards which later form the basis for international cryptographic standards. ArsTechnica and NYTimes did a profile on this yesterday. Here's a direct quote from ArsTechnica:
Today, the New York Times reported that an algorithm for generating random numbers, which was adopted in 2006 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), contains a backdoor for the NSA.
Now that's a pretty big deal. If the algorithms, which are based on these standard and included in standard libraries in various computer languages, are flawed then the software that was created by programmers, based on trust, is flawed as well.

This isn't even the first time. In 2007, two Microsoft researchers presented a paper that described an attack on Dual_EC_DRBG. It came as a huge shock but most people chalked it down to a one time event. We now know that that attack vector was designed and placed there by NSA. Imagine if Russia or North Korea were to discover the exploit first. The entire world will pay a heavy price.

It doesn't end there. If you think NSA doesn't or wouldn't abuse your data. You're wrong, again. NSA already shares all data, including American data, with Israelis. All data without any limits and, of course, with hopes that the Israelis won't abuse the privilege which is quite ironic given that NSA abuses every privilege. This is despite the so-called LOVEINT which is a euphoric acronym for NSA officers who use their spying power on love interests for stalking.

Knowing all of this, what makes you think that BlackBerry won't be a target of these exploits? or Barrick Gold? or some Canadian Bank or MNC where thousands of Canadians are employed. How long before US corporations actively join NSA to exploit these "backdoors"? Before you experience cognitive dissonance and claim it will never happen, I urge you to look at the recent news: NSA accused of spying on Brazilian oil company Petrobras. If this can happen to a Brazilian company, why not a Canadian company? Take a look at the case of Nortel, for example. There was a time when Nortel was bigger than Cisco and Microsoft. It employed almost 100,000 Canadians. Yet it was hacked in much the same way. The story that we are told is that the attacks on Nortel R&D originated in China. Who is to say NSA wasn't behind it? Losing Nortel has meant that your children, and mine, have lost those opportunities and we, as Canadians, have lost a tax base that was dependent on Nortel. Since our taxes pay for the healthcare system, how can we afford it without a tax base that isn't paying taxes? It's no secret that our healthcare system is already suffering from a lack of funding. How many more Nortels can we absorb before our healthcare system goes into a shock?

Since this fiasco started my phone hasn't stopped ringing. Interestingly, most of these calls are from my colleague who work in the government. All the custom software that they paid millions of dollars for has now become a security risk. These are the same people that opposed me when I tried to inform them of these issues. The choice of compiler or which libraries to use was a non-issue for them but not anymore.

For now, we are not on the receiving end as we are part of the "Five Eyes" but we haven't always had a rosy relationship with the US, so how long before we become a target? And what are our options? Should we become a client state to US?

BTW, if you think you have seen the worst of it. I would point to the new NSA data center in Utah. It's a 1.5 million square feet behamoth projected to cost around $2 billion and another $2 billion for hardware, software, and maintenance. It is estimated to have a storage capacity between 3 and 12 exabytes. In other words, the party hasn't even started yet.

It is easy to dismiss what NSA is doing but if you think about it, the consequences are grave. In any case, my comments are a critique of NSA and I hope you don't take any of it personally.

Sure, reading your emails or texts or listening to your calls or watching you in the shower... what's the difference? :D

BTW, Stasi used the same line of thought i.e. "Nothing to hide, nothing to fear". That experiment didn't turn out too well and neither would this one.

It works to access HK stuff, but it is so slow that TVB shows buffer like mad. Are there any other types of services that will work well to play TVB shows? I also tried Stealthy, but same issue.
