This won't be helpful for most people, but is there a loyalty plan less than $36 a month? My mother-in-law hardly uses her phone so she's got a more basic plan with Zoomer.

She pays $28.80 per month for 1.2 GB and 200 minutes. She hates talking on the phone and only ever texts and instant messages. When she was with Bell, she only would ever use about 100 MB/month. I'll in 2 months when she's eligible for loyalty and see what's available.

I see a Zoomer $28.80 / month plan with 1.2GB and 200 mins. There might be cheaper option without data, try calling in.

Edit: whopps just saw your edit about her having this plan

Other options may be:
- Public Mobile HAD $23 / month plan with 1GB (3G speed) and unlimited mins, probably expired

- Fido $15 / month 4GB data only (have a phone number for receiving text, but no calls in/out nor outgoing text, emergency 911 only). She can use voice call on Whatsapp or any app when necessary.

How much if you just want the pixel 3 and no plan? Can you just sign up and then cancel and pay off the balance like Koodo? How much will it be?

Loyalty plans for renewal (or after 6 months) are:
$36 / month for 4GB and unlimited minutes
$40.50 / month for 5GB and unlimited minutes
$45 / month for 6GB and unlimited minutes
$54 / month for 7GB and unlimited minutes

New customer plans are:
$36 / month for 3GB -> 4GB loyalty plan after 6 months
$40.50 / month for 4GB -> 5GB loyalty plan after 6 months
$54 / month for 5GB -> 7GB loyalty plan after 6 months
Where are you seeing this? The plans I'm seeing are much more paltry.

That right.
You're only obligated to finish up the original term to pay off the phone subsidy.
What I mean is, if you’re on a 2 year term, can you call in after 6mos and upgrade your plan without changing length? That’s kinda how it’s worded in the post.

It's been 4 years and they still have not updated the pricing / plans on their website.
The closest at one point was a banner for "double data and minutes" when the $36 plan was 1GB (500mb x2) back in 2015. Afterwards, they added 1GB bonus in 2016. Then eventually another 1GB for new customers (3GB total) or 2GB bonus (4GB total) for loyalty in 2018.

Anyways, start a live chat or call in, they can offer these plans no problem.

Yes, after 6months you can switch to a loyalty plan without extending the term.

Correct, just call / email / online chat after 6 months and they can give you the extra data without changing your contract date.
Actually, when you call in to sign up, you should ask them to reconfirm the 6 month loyalty and ask them to add a note to your account.

wait for BTS sales, and I'm sure Koodo will have a nice selection of phones on medium tab with GC given by the retailer.

I'm really interested in that $40.50 plan for 5 GB LTE with unlimited text and minutes Canada wide plus a device for new customers. From past BTS sales, can Koodo beat this?
