Can't agree more. I purchased it at my University food court and couldn't finish it. My friend also threw it. I don't waste food but unfortunately I had to do it that day.RyanL93740 wrote: ↑ Worst coffee I've ever had from a fast food chain. I'm not a coffee expert as I'm not a regular drinker but I find 7-11 and McDonald's to be really good. For $1, I'll give this a try.

I really enjoy their coffee.
I usually get my coffee black and it’s been consistant.

McDonald's coffee I think is honestly pretty solid for fast food. It's probably the best basic coffee, it's better than Starbucks in my opinion (less over-roasted). They invested a bit extra in their coffee as they pushed into McCafe and after some lawsuits around their prior coffee offering. Good light roast basic coffee, won't beat a fancy coffee shop at all but it'll do the job just finearagingbull wrote: ↑ I'm not a coffee expert as I'm not a regular drinker but I find 7-11 and McDonald's to be really good. This promo is nothing to sneeze at and I am beginning to see how A&W is seeing how lucrative it is to be selling coffee after seeing how McDonald's have successfully relaunched their coffee business and reimagined their brand from "just another fast food and burger place" to a cafe/coffee place. Yes, A&W coffee will not appeal to any coffee connoisseur, and A&W does not get mentioned in the same sentence as quality coffee. However, the A&W I have at the mall serves Van Houtte coffee, which is supposed to be "better" coffee than the "A&W" brand. It's not really that bad, but still miles behind others -- definitely not dish water. I still like McDonald's coffee the best. I don't mind if A&W takes a page from the same playbook as McDonald's and start giving away free coffee for a week to get others to try them out and offering free refills as well. That will seriously give McDonald's a run for their money -- especially when McDonald's moved away from the cup and digital sticker program and switched completely over to a points program which makes it harder to get free coffees and the points values can arbitrarily change, whereas if you have a full coffee card, you get a free coffee regardless. There was also a time when you can double-dip on the loyalty program to get two free coffees faster by collecting both the physical and digital coffee sticker. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Having said that, I hope A&W succeeds in starting up their coffee business to keep McDonald's, Tim Hortons, and Starbucks honest and on their toes while not taking their marketshare for granted. When there's real competition in the market, the consumers always win with: more choices; better quality; and lower prices. Not everyone has $5 to spend on a "tall" brewed coffee that's burnt at the best of times.
Thanks for the post, OP!

Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉

A&W is really varied but the quality is good when you get the right location. Some taste like poison while others are great. Try a bunch of locations. I've found my ideal ones in Edmonton. I think turnover of coffee, cleanliness and stuff determine strength.

I got the email this morning too. But it's weird...the location I like is still showing regular price, the one I absolutely dislike is showing me $1. Hmm....

I also believe they don't do decaf, but I can't remember after so many years.
McDonalds coffee is almost too good to be fast food coffee, I'll stick with them.
I respect those that like the intense taste of A&W, it's not my speed.
I aim to be inclusive and considerate of others in my posts. If I fall short of that mark, feel free to let me know in good faith, and where appropriate, I'll edit my posts. Thank you.

A&W coffee is the best - noticeably better than Tim's and even McD's.duhastvielgeweint wrote: ↑ If you drink McD or Tim Hortons coffee then A&W coffee is just as good. It's also a good deal because you can get larger sizes. Thank you OP for the update.
But, it depends on the location. Coffee has to be fresh.
I don't buy at Markville Mall anymore because there I get cold coffee almost every time. But that location has issues. I once returned a tray of food that they had given us the wrong food for the order and even though we'd opened it up and inspected it before realizing the error to return it, they just put everything back on the shelf, presumably to give to other customers! YUCK! I'd never seen this at any restaurant before.

Absolutely, I second this -- ymmv depending on the location and how it's operated. You should contact HQ about this. Very concerning that the restaurant would put "customer inspected" food back on the service line. Not only is this not food safe, but a huge potential legal liability if another customer gets sick or worse -- poisoned because another customer "returned their wrong order" and spiked it before giving the food back -- or drove off and came back if they were drive-thru. The employee can't just assume it's OK. Most cases, it is OK, but you never know who's scheming to mass poison a bunch of people. Any food that is returned must be thrown out. Full. Stop. This is a basic rule and common practice of the food service industry, fast food or not. You can't count on the customer to have clean hands either after seeing how many people leave the washroom and walking right past the sink after doing their business. Yes, it's a sad waste of food, but it is the employee's fault for not double checking the order before it leaves the counter.vane4665 wrote: ↑ A&W coffee is the best - noticeably better than Tim's and even McD's.

Your experience reminded me that I had a very different experience at a particular McDonald's location as well, where they seem to operate a bit differently from other locations I've been to. I used to also ask for a small cup of hot water for my grandma and most stores would charge 10 cents, but only this store charges 60 cents. Same size of hot water, but they charge more. They also don't participate in promos like free coffee for the week. They are also stingy on the condiments and napkins as well. That leads me to think this is a franchised store and not a corporate store. I mean McDonald's does put a disclaimer in the offer: available at participating stores.
Thus, if A&W has any corporate stores, they would operate very differently from franchised stores. You will tend to get a more uniform experience at a corporate store, though they're all supposed to provide the same experience to a customer and it shouldn't matter to the customer, nor should they care -- but reality begs to differ.
Maybe the corporate locations are serving better coffee than the franchised ones who cheap out by serving the nasty stuff since it isn't their main line of business or profit centre. 99% of customers who go to A&W don't automatically order a coffee, so there's no point in ordering the finest coffee to serve to the 1% of coffee customers. That's my general (non-scientific) clue to which ones are likely corporate stores.
Thanks for sharing your nasty A&W encounter and to warn others to stay away.
