Happy to be corrected, but I read in a different forum that it costs more for the merchant to remove it and re-add it when the item is in and out of stock.

Hence they increase the price until they have item back in stock.

Basically this. Increase the price to the point of where no one will order it.
If someone does for one reason or another, you do whatever you can to source one because it's a giant pay day.

This isn't a real price.

Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.
