this is a slow NAS, similar to dns 323.. Better alternative is the recently released dns NAS.

Maybe but for NAS novices or people that needed a budget nas in emergency this is excellent. I was literrally looking for an emergency cheapest replacement to a LaCie Ethernet Big Disk 2TB because I bought 2xWD15EARS to go inside that LaCie unit. The LaCie unit needs a replacement internal power button cable so this Valkyrie is the perfect replacement. D-Link DNS-323 costs $130+13% at my local futureshop. The Valkyrie was $118 at NCIX a little while ago and $5 ground shipping made this much more cost effective.

True, but if you are going to pay $116.38 + shipping + tax for the valkyrie right now, why not pay couple of more dollars and get the considerably faster and newer DNS-320 for $119 @ TD or $120 (shipped, taxed and brokered) @ B&H ?!
If you would rather not, why not get the well established DNS-323 (comparably slow but way more solid) for $109 shipped @ ME ?!

p.s. I still have mine (valkyrie) unboxed from almost a year ago, is it really this slow ?

Slowest NAS CNET tested according to this.
Second slowest NAS tested by testfreaks according to this.

at NCIX I only had to pay $116-$118 + 5%tax, 1.5%insurrance and $5 shipping, the D-Link would have cost me $130+15%tx at local futureshop and that's during a sale on the DNS-323. The valkyrie was more convenient and cost effective for me.

I don't have a credit card so ME is not convenient for me, TD to quebec has crazy high shipping charges and 15% tax never heard of bhphotovideo before but I doubt they have Electronic Bill Payment? I've never used FTP before and not about to start now. I'm just starting to use LAN for anything at all.

Though for others shopping it sounds like the DNS-320 is a newer option?

BTW DNS-323 is SATA-1 (1.5Gbps) and Valkyrie is SATA-2 (3Gbps), most importantly better power management in SATA2.
