I nearly missed this because it wasn't grouped with the rest of the hard drive section and was just by itself. I'm glad that I gave the flyer a second read through. Going to be getting this. Before this, I was considering the 10TB WD Elements for $210.

Edit: Recent 14 TB Western Digital Easystores were shucked to reveal either model numbers WD140EMFZ or WD140EDFZ.

Please read below.

The drive inside the 14tb WD Easystore are WD140EMFZ which are helium filled Ultrastar Drives.
Look at the code numbers on the drive. The "R/N" code is a "Regulatory Number" aka "Agency Model Number" for government safety certification. "US7SAP140" corresponds to the WD Ultrastar DC HC520 7200-RPM SATA interface drive, HGST model numbers WUH721414ALE6L4 and WUH721414ALE6L1. In other words:

How to Read Model Numbers: WUH721414ALE6L4 – 14TB SATA 6Gb/s 512e Base (SE) with Legacy Pin 3 config:

W = Western Digital

U = Ultrastar

H = Helium

72 = 7200 RPM

14 = Max capacity (14TB)

14 = Capacity this model (14TB)

A = Generation code

L = 26.1mm z-height

E6 = Interface (512e SATA 6Gb/s)

(52 = 512e SAS 12Gb/s)

** 512e models can be converted to 4Kn format and vice versa

y = Power Disable Pin 3 status(0 = Power Disable Pin 3 support

L = Legacy Pin 3 config – No Power Disable Support)

z = Data Security Mode

1 = SED* : Self-Encryption Drive TCG-Enterprise and Sanitize Crypto Scramble / Erase

4 = Base (SE)* : No Encryption, Sanitize Overwrite only

5 = SED-FIPS: SED w/ certification (SAS only)

Edit: @Prodigy45 has mentioned two of these drives he has bought during BF sale came with EDFZ Drives.
Prodigy45 wrote: Just want to point out I purchased two of these drives during the black friday sale and they did not come with EMFZ drives, but rather with EDFZ's, so you might want to update your post as it's not a guarantee.
WD140EDFZ R/N is also WD140EDFZ. This goes back to the drives essentially being the same even though WD has them rebranded from some reason. EDFZ drives are WD Ultrastar DC HC520 7200-RPM SATA if you go base of the R/N Number on the EDFZ.

I quickly looked at the pictures and I don't see 72 anywhere. How can you be sure it's 7200 RPM?

I suppose this is bad to use in a NAS? I always used WD red.

These drives should be great for a NAS. Drives have 2.5M hours MTBF and rated at 550TB per year if the drive truly is a WD UltraStar.

Man seeing these deals makes me wish I waited to set up my NAS. I ended up with a DS1019+ w/ 5 x 10TB HDs at $230 each. Could've spent an extra $150 and ended up with an extra 16TB

If you look up the R/N Number on the Drive (US7SAP140) it is linked to WUH721414ALE6L4 Base (SE) Not supported / WUH721414ALE6L1. indicating the drives were originally 7200rpm drives, but have been slowed down to 5400rpm for the purpose of Easystore.

Hence why I posted the last photo of Disk Check, which shows the drive is 5400rpm.

The prices of HDD have been slowly coming cheaper as each year passes which is great for us Canadians, even though we are still that much more expensive vs our counterparts over the boarder. Hopefully when the time comes for you to add more drives or replace drives, you'll have much better options at that point.

Yeah that's the dream! 40TB should last me a couple more years (I hope), by the hopefully we'll see 14TB-16TB drives hit $200!

I've been fortunate to have bought 2x12TB around the price point of $230-260. I'm up to 24TB now, looking to purchase another 12-14TB and push myself up to 36-38TB. Just when you tell yourself, "I should be good for now", probably could use another one. My ever-growing media storage just grows as year passes. lol

That would be so nice to see HDD at that size sub $200, soon man.

How would you say these drives stack up vs the Seagate Exos drives? I'm trying to compare the $199 10tb Seagate Expansion that was an Exos inside vs this drive to shuck and use in NAS.

I already jumped on the WD 12TB for $230 at BB couple weeks back, is it worth returning them for this deal....?

I made an executive decision to cap my NAS at 10tb drives for now, including parity. While these larger drives are very good TB/$, the parity rebuild time and simple fact that it's a ton of data to potentially lose in a single shot is a turn off for me. That being said I've got 24 bays in my NAS so I do have some flexibility in terms of drive bay real estate.

If u can return and get this then do it.
If u are using these in a NAS, These are more TB per slot used at a less price per TB.
