The element that cripple the performance on this Lenovo is the eMMC.

That's why it should be faster on paper but it's not in real life performance.
I think the crap cpu is more bottleneck... It's choking it lol. Youtube is painful on this

Thanks for the advice! I love Openbox. I'm running it on my AMD-based desktop (along with Arch), and when I boot in, I'm using <200 MB RAM. I guess we all don't need 16 GB!

Well, I regret not buying more of these units. It outperforms the Samsung Flash in the video game department for sure (Portal 2 and HL2 were annoyingly slow frame rates on the samsung). The Intel Silver has a stronger CPU scoring 2457 VS the 1962 points on the AMD A6. BUT I'm pretty sure the Radeon R5 chipset seems to outperform the integrated graphics on the Intel and more than makes up for it in the gaming department (See below).

Tested a few games out on steam and was very surprised with Half Life 2 running at 30-60 FPS at native 1080P settings. It ran 50-80 FPS at 720P settings. Yea, HL2 is an old game but it's an example of what can be played on this $169 laptop. I think it's due to the Radeon graphics, which my Samsung Flash doesn't have. I like to use HL2 and Portal 2 as a standard test for these lower powered laptops. Based on that I'm quite certain some newer games will run just fine such as Stardew Valley and Plague Inc. (update while HL2 performed well, Portal 2 was horrible at about 10 FPS)

Next up to test is Autonauts. (update - performed horribly at 5 FPS hehe...)

(yes, admittedly the screen isn't the nicest and the keyboard isn't something to write home about but it's $169 and still can play HL2 at 1080P hitting almost 60 FPS at peak).

Edit - spelling

Edit 2 - speaking of gaming I think this would be an excellent emulator system (such as Nintendo DS/2DS games) but I've read about using Bluestacks for Android emulation opening this laptop up to possibly a huge range of Android games from that ecosystem as well. Call it a laptop or call it a gaming device, you can spend more on a 2DS these days.) Oh yea I haven't tried Steam's Remote Play yet either but I'm sure that works great too as it did on the Samsung Flash.

Also just updated to the Latest Windows 10 (Update 1909).

Huge difference this makes towards performance. This update should show up automatically.

I installed xubuntu 18.04 to dual boot with windows 10, it worked very well at first, xubuntu booted within 10 seconds, then at some point it took 20-30 minutes to boot because it checks disks etc.
So I removed partitions for xubuntu and installed lubuntu to dual boot, it is working well and boots within 10 seconds into lubuntu. Memory usage is less than 600MB when booted.

In summary, linux runs better than windows on this laptop.

Thanks,. I done the same and the first batch of updates and it seems to have helped speed up the laptop. After one or two more manual search for updates, the Windows v1909 was available for d/l and install.

Finally got this working way faster.

Do this.
Go to the "Control Panel".

Uninstall Lenovo Vantage
Uninstall OneDrive (unless you need it)

In control pane,l search for "performance" and manually set page file size to min 200MB and max 1024MB. Also experiment with no page file size.

Essentially trying to minimize disk activities as much as possible.

Anyone else tried this? Does it make a difference?
