17h flight in Y in a 787

From SFO to SIN with UA. Comfortable and tolerable in Y on a 787 for 17h?

Or just go LAX to TPE with EVA 14h flight in J?

We rode a 787 on a 14 hour flight. It was very cramped. 17 hours would be an endurance test if you are at all tall.

Is this even a real question: J vs Y?

J hands down. 787 is cramped.

Never rode in a 787 before so I figured maybe Y is better since it's a recent plane.

No J for that particular AP flight for the date so I will keep on looking!

+1... I'll take a flight with 2 stops in j over a direct in y for such a long journey

Go for J. Lots EVA reward seats in business class til the end of this year... Just redeemed 6 for Christmas.

No Y seat would ever compare to a J seat, i don't care how new the aircraft is

it seems like you don't really care where you go, so I would definitely take the one with the most time in J

Hopefully they don't have the squishy seats (i.e. no hard back). Because if you get a tall guy behind you, you'll have a set of knees in your back - very uncomfortable.

I do see some of them for my plan that's occuring in 2 months time. I gotta try to piece together good segments and one that works.

I wanted to do an open-jaw YYC-BKK MNL-YYC. But haven't been able to find a YYC-BKK itinerary that suits my needs. I did find an MNL-YYC one so I ended up snatching that one as a one-way. MNL-ICN-LAX-YYC. First 2 segments OZ, last segment AC, all in J. $75 each plus the AP. There was also one suitable MNL-YYC itinerary which involve BR for $25 each plus the AP. But decided to go OZ. When I looked again 2 hrs later, the ICN-LAX only had F, which is not what I'm willing to put out more AP for.

I now have to keep on looking for the YYC-BKK one-way. Trying to avoid getting to BKK +2 days.

BTW, because I have a one-way for the MNL-YYC, would AP let me change from two one-way to open-jaw if the next little while I find a one-way YYC-BKK that works?

The ICN-LAX segment is on an airbus 380. If I can find a YYC-BKK that has a boeing 787 segment, that be a bonus :)

I also see YYC-BKK which involves crossing the atlantic, going to either LHR or FRA and then onwards. Seems a lot more scamcharges for that journey.

AC 578 YYC 19:25 LAX 21:38 320 0 YS+
-> BR 11 LAX 00:05 +1 TPE 05:15 +2 77W 0 CS+
-> TG 637 TPE 07:50 +2 BKK 10:35 +2 330 0 CS+
For a wed or a fri and it's $202 + AP. Shitty thing is the 1st segment for both wed and fri is in Y but at least it's not long haul.
AC 201 YYC 06:00 YVR 06:26 320 0 YS+
-> AC 7 YVR 13:30 HKG 17:25 +1 77W 0 WS+
-> TG 639 HKG 19:05 +1 BKK 20:45 +1 330 0 YS+

AC 201 YYC 06:00 YVR 06:26 320 0 YS+

-> TG 607 HKG 20:45 +1 BKK 22:25 +1 747 0 YS+

-> AC 7 YVR 13:30 HKG 17:25 +1 77W 0 WS+
-> TG 639 HKG 19:05 +1 BKK 20:45 +1 330 0 YS+

AC/QK 8690 YYC 10:00 YVR 10:25 CRA 0 YS+

-> TG 607 HKG 20:45 +1 BKK 22:25 +1 747 0 YS+
Also for wed but the long haul is all in W. Wonder what the chances are for J being released for them?

AC 201 YYC 06:00 YVR 06:26 320 0 CS+
-> AC 7 YVR 13:30 HKG 17:25 +1 77W 0 WS+
-> TG 607 HKG 20:45 +1 BKK 22:25 +1 747 0 FS+

AC 201 YYC 06:00 YVR 06:26 320 0 CS+ YS+
-> AC 29 YVR 12:20 PEK 14:10 +1 77W 0 CS+ WS+
-> TG 615 PEK 17:05 +1 BKK 21:15 +1 773 0 YS+
For a thurs. First itinerary, 2nd segment in W. Second itinerary, I guess the 3rd segment being in Y is OK (??) but it's $375 + AP though.

Trying to convince my travelling partner to go on a Wed.

J - why would you do otherwise?

I've taken that UA SFO-SIN flight. It is a 15 hour flight - all at night on the way there. I'm a normal sized person, but I got stuck between two white dudes in a middle seat - I wouldn't recommend that flight in Y unless you're a skinny Asian kid.

Found a YYC-LAX-TPE-BKK, all on J :) Had to call in though to Aeroplan to piece together that one due to the TPE-BKK segment.

AC 570 YYC 07:45 LAX 09:58 320 0 CS+
BR 5 LAX 11:55 TPE 17:05 +1 77W 0 CS+
TG 637 TPE 07:50 BKK 10:35 330 0 CS+

Was trying to merge this with a one-way MNL-ICN-LAX-YYC I already booked few days earlier to make it into a multi-city (YYC-LAX-TPE (stop for 2 nights)-BKK (stop)-MNL (destination)-ICN-LAX-YYC) or OJ (between BKK and MNL) but the $100 change fee per direction per person, which makes it $400 total, and the surcharges/taxes were bothersome. My mistake for booking the MNL-YYC too soon.

On a side note, has anyone taken EVA from Toronto-Taipei? If so, was it the new or the old J layout? Thanks in advance!

Just to answer the original question, I've flown Y in a 787 a few times and it wasn't that bad, but I paid for the row 18 bulkhead seats and my flights were only 11hrs max and I sleep well on overnights. I don't know if I could do 17hrs in a regular Y seat.

I am trying to book the following in J for Nov: YYZ to SGN or HAN via TPE (with few days stopover), and then return from CEB or MNL to YYZ. The multi-city option won't work online but the agent I spoke to said it's a valid award routing - open jaw with one stopover. Anyone get this to work without going through an agent?

When I try to generate a one-way YYC-BKK, TPE is never an option. So I do it segment by segment YYC-TPE TPE-BKK. There isn't a way for me to book the latter online so I have to go thru the agent ($30 per tix). It actually comes out way cheaper than the other routings generated by YYC-BKK
