No, not always. At least not on all cars. I had some transmission problems, and the check engine line does indeed come on, but nothing to do with the engine. There is, after all, no check transmission light.

If the fluid is good I would replace the plugs I know it only has 35k km's but they might be bad.

Honda is a joke nowadays. No idea why people still think they are reliable.

Honda has NEVER had any good automatic period. So really these kind of issues are no surprise. Even back then when Honda's were actually good cars, their autos were complete junk, especially the ones mated to a V6.
