That's an awesome price. Would get it if I didn't get the SN850x.

I heard chatter that the some of the newer Samsung 990 Pro bricks itself by going into write only mode and it can only be fixed by replacing the drive.

u would still get this over the SN850x? I was thinking about the 980 Pro 2TB, but friends and people online said to stay away from it still even after the firmware update that Samsung said to do to fix the problem.

I was considering the SN850x since last night.

I'd pick up a few of these, If it wasn't for the issues that the 2TB Samsung drives have been having.

If you pick this up, download Samsung Magician and update the firmware. Just to be safe to avoid any issues with degradation.

I think they are almost the same. But I think the Samsung might run cooler so that's why I wanted it. I would just go with whatever is cheaper. The 980 Pro might need firmware update flashing to get the max speeds and Samsung's Canada warranty requires more hoops to jump through.

These just aren't worth the premium price anymore. Go western digital and keep playing.

Same. I got into the beta software update, and bought the 1TB 980 Pro for $240.

I honestly could never have imagine that a 2 TB would drop to $220.

I'd stay away. Mine bricked itself when I updated the firmware in Samsung Magician. Samsung support was useless. I had to fight with Amazon to get a refund. Went with the SN850X instead.

Unless you need something right now, HODL. Solid state storage is expected to continue to drop this year due to a surplus of NAND inventory.

Not worth paying a premium price for a model that is known to have issues.
"Something seems to be wrong with Samsung’s 980 and 990 Pro SSDs. Owners of the highly regarded M.2 solid-state drives are reporting rapid degradation, with some users sending their 990 Pros back to Samsung. And for the older 980 Pro, Samsung is reportedly recommending owners to update to the latest firmware (via PC Gamer)."

Search for "Samsung SSD 0E", "Samsung SSD RMA Canada".
Do yourself a favour and buy other brands instead.

Kingston KC3000 is an excellent SSD, in case anyone is looking for alternatives.

At this time the only update reported from samsung is from 3 days ago that they are prepping for a fix. There hasn’t been any detail officially regarding what caused the issue or any detail regarding the fix . Just want throw it out there !!!

Apparently there's a firmware update/grade for the 980 Pro....

I believe it's the 990 pro we're still waiting on a fix for.

Reliability concerns. Be aware of "Samsung SSD 0E" issue.
